  1. Klay Thompson is a better shooter, scorer, defender and so far this year more willing passer... so without a doubt Klay Thompson is the better player.  I would argue that Demar has taken a step back so far this year.

If you asked me before the season, I would've most likely said Demar.  Right now, though, it's not even close.  Klay blows Demar out of the water so far this year.

  2. I share your concerns about his shoulder - he was a good 3 point shooter, not mediocre, good (a shade under 40% FFS!) just a few years ago.

His shot selection is part of a bigger issue on this team. For whatever reason, Casey has no issue with guys like Alan Anderson and Rudy Gay playing outside of themselves, but as soon as Val or Ross puts up 2 questionable shots they get yanked. Anderson is ridiculous and makes me more angry than any player I've ever seen, and Gay, for whatever reason, sees pulling up from 17 feet with a guy right on him as a better option than just throwing it back out and starting again.

The reality is, Casey has ruined Lowry. He is our best player and rather than run sets through him, we run Rudy Gay and Demar Derozan isolations on the wing. Alan Anderson has no filter, he's Mike James without shot making ability. The offense shouldn't run through Rudy - he is being miscast, and the blame has to fall squarely on the coach for putting his players in situations they are destined to fail in.

Watch the next few games closely, everyone's body language sucks. Demar looked so pissed vs the Lakers when he basically got iced out of the game, Anderson was painfully oblivious, Gay looked like he was hardly engaged, and Lowry wouldn't even look Casey in the eye.

I would be absolutely shocked if Casey was here next year. I can't believe I was an advocate of his just a few months ago. He's a total jackass. Why has the media not asked him for an explanation? That's literally all I want, I want to know WHY there is no accountability on this team, like he has claimed there would be from the start.

I don't disagree with anything I said at this time. I think a big part of the Raptors improvements came through assistant coaching changed.

I'm glad I knew almost 2 years ago Lowry was our best player!

Also, I still hate Alan Anderson

  3. Seems like a weird trade for Pittburgh, as (from what I have read of him) Morrow sounds like a really sound defenseman, something they are sorely lacking these days.  I love Morrow for a team in the playoffs, just not sure he's the piece the Pens need right now.

Gotta wonder if a guy like Streit, Robidas or hell, even Dan Boyle, would fit a need on that back end.

  4. That's a bit dramatic.  The fact is, the Flyers have pieces, and that's what matters in today's NHL, when making you can go from being bottom 5 to top 5 in your conference in literally just one year.  Having Giroux and Brayden up the middle is going to be rock solid for the next decade, and then wingers like Simmonds, Read, Voracek, et al. will help round out that top 6 nicely.  I question where Couturier fits in - is he your 3rd line center going forward, ala Jordan Staal?  Or does he move into the top 6, shifting Brayden or Giroux to the wing?  His production has been a massive disappointment for me, but you'd probably have to watch him every night to really glean what he brings to the table.

I think the biggest problem is Philly isn't really sure what they want to be.  Are they rebuilding/retooling? Or are they trying to win?  There is a market out there for guys like Timmonen, Hartnell and Briere (not sure if they have NTC/NMC's?) should they decide to get younger, and start over.

The back end is a mess there, with a ton of money tied up.  Philly wouldn't be in a terrible position to take this year and next to rebuild the farm through the draft and trades, even if it means missing the playoffs both years.  It wouldn't take long, seeing as there are a ton of young, good players who are already contributing.  I just don't think their GM is willing to do it, he reminds me a lot of Colangelo.  Some patience would go a long way for this franchise, IMO.

More likely, is Philly makes a bunch of band-aid moves this summer.

  5. Once Valanciunas gets comfortable with his mid range jumper (he's shown he can knock it down), he's going to be such a stud off of screens.  He rolls so hard (to never receive a pass, smh), but him being able to pop to the elbow is going to make his game that much more effective.

He has averaged 29.6 MPG over the last 5, giving the Raps 13.2 with 7 boards and a block.  Oh look, when you play him he is a good player!

I really hope Casey gets fired this summer, Colangelo too if that helps us get a credible coach (give SVG a blank cheque).  I'm not saying this team should win 55 games next year, but they should be way better than they play.  Our team's calling card should be our defense, our starting 5 has such good defensive stats so far (0.78 points per possession), and there's no reason we can't at least be solid offensively, especially running out in transition off stops and misses.

If Alan Anderson is brought back, I might seriously walk away until Colangelo is gone.

  6. If you told me 3 months ago Kadri would score 30 pts in his first 30 games this year playing 3rd line minutes, I probably would have told you to piss off.  Has been my favourite player on the Leafs since he was ridiculously sent back to London out of camp 4 years ago, and I am ridiculously happy he is excelling so far, and pray he keeps it up, even if it means the off-season could be dicey, as he is an RFA.

What a fun year so far.  This season is a win-win: if we squeak into the playoffs, we're in the playoffs!  If not, we go back to the lottery and add another good young piece, or have an attractive asset to potentially make a draft day trade.  Our top 6 is shaping up halfway decently, and the core on the back end is pretty sweet too (Gards, Dion, Rielly and Gunnar/Franson, solid top 4).  Say what you will about Burkie, he did a decent job here considering there was literally nothing when he got here.

I've said all along I wouldn't bet on the playoffs, but after almost a god damn decade, I can't act like I'm not excited we are in the mix with only 18 games to go!  The fact our 2nd line (Kadri-Lups-Kule) is producing like they are makes us really dangerous.  I don't think their production is like the Grabo-Kule-Mac line was either, this isn't a fluke.  Obviously this production is unsustainable, but they are buzzing and their puck possession is awesome.  Teams are really going to have to consider putting their best D pairing out against those guys, giving Kessel the 2nd pairing would be huge.

Its just nice that for the first time in what feels like forever, we have flexibility, some options, and a somewhat decent future!

  7. Amir Johnson seems to be so underrated.  I'm not saying the guy is a star, but he's pretty efficient and a very good rebounder.  Also, he may not be an elite defender, but he protects the rim better than anyone else in Toronto, that's for sure.

He's a guy you go to war with.  He's come such a long way in Toronto its insane.

  9. Lol at that Aaron Gray double team, pretty much sums up our season and coaching staff.

Reffing was atrocious at times tonight, especially as far as kobe is concerned.  Not enough for me to blame the loss on it, but definitely relevant and frustrating, mainly down the stretch of the 4th.  Kobe is a huge [expletive] when it comes to the refs, but also a robot, those shots he was hitting were just .... inhuman.

LA doesn't deserve to make the playoffs.  They are going to get anally raped by OKC.  Have fun, the Raps are garbage and poorly coached and you barely squeaked out a win vs us.  Makes me feel genuinely bad for you guys, because you should be better . Nash is criminally underutilized offensively.
