Raptors Extend Andrea Bargnani, 5 years, 50 million

On the bright side, the Cavaliers just signed Varajeo for $50 million as well. If that's anything to go off, Toronto just got themselves a bargain!

I was just going to mention this. If people are complaining about Bargnani being over paid with his $50M deal then that would mean Varejao making the same amount is one of the worst over payments in the league (might be a slight exageration lol). Despite the fact that Varejao's deal is for 6 years, it would still have to be considered a horrible over payement if you think that Bargs is over paid.

Good points on everything that you said though. I completely agree with you when you said that if it looks like Bargnani isn't going to fit on the Raptors after the first two years on his deal then he won't be hard to move because there is bound to be a team that would take a chance on somebody of Bargnani's skill set for around $9M or so. I mentioned the fact that if Bargnani reaches what he is capable of that it would be an absolute bargain so I am not going to get into that anymore.

If Bargs can be a 16-8 player and get 1.5 blocks next year, we'll be a legit team IMO, assuming BC fills out our roster with competent bench players.

He is a 15-5-1 already. He only sits at 5 rpg because of the front line rotation in Toronto and he hasn't been able to get any starts really .. his minutes have been bad considering he is trying his hardest to improve .. Toronto's coaching is disgusting to be honest, you have a guy putting in work and producing good numbers coming off the bench a now and then and only get like 30 mpg.

If he is to develop he needs at least to average around 35-38 mpg like Dirk got.

The reason why he gets 5 rpg is because he is a bad rebounder. He does not have a great nose for the ball when it comes off of the rim and he is out of position a lot of the time when battling for rebounds. On offense, he doesn't have much of a hope of grabbing offensive boards because he is usually out on the perimeter and he averages less than 1 offensive board a game. It has nothing to do with his minutes or not getting any starts (which is a joke considering he started 59 out of the 78 games that he played in last season and 53 of the 78 he played in his sophomore season). He averaged 35 mpg as a starter last season and he still only managed to grab 6 boards a game.

For the entire season half of the season last year Bargnani was the second option for the Raptors offensively and was playing around 35 minutes a game (give or take a few minutes) what more do you want the Raptors coaching staff to give him? Should they make him the first option on offense and play 42 minutes a game so that he can "develop"?

No, it's not an exaggeration. Someone should be shot for giving out such big money to such a mediocre player, haha.

Look at the monthly splits dude, don't fault the Raptors coaching when it is their FAULT he even played so well in the second half in the first place. Triano came in after Smitch and actually gave Bargs room to make mistakes, and play through them. He got those numbers on a 31 win team. If he can get those 16-7 with a block or 2 this year then I'd be laughing. Bargnani was second option last year, if he can put those numbers up with Hedo and Bosh in front of him, that would be perfect.

And as you can see by the monthly splits, you can see what he does do in 35 minutes a game.
