Kerr says Suns can Afford Amare

Suns general manager Steve Kerr says that the team can afford to re-sign All-Star forward Amar'e Stoudemire.

 

"We can afford it," Kerr said when asked by Dan Patrick if the team could re-sign Stoudemire.

 

"We've had one of the top five, six payrolls in the NBA for four years running. We'll spend money, that's not the question. We have to make sure we spend it the right way. Hopefully we can get something done with Amar'e. That's the plan."

Affordability isn't the issue imo, the issue is whether Amare wants to play for a Suns team who are a couple years away from rebuild mode.

Conference Finals not enough to be regarded as a contender. The only real 'contenders' are Boston and the Lakers and both have 80+ million dollar payrolls. It's not exactly reasonable to assume that either team will pick up Stoudemire anytime soon.
