Trail Blazers: Make a run at LeBron?

Shouldn't the Blazers at least extend a few feelers and gauge James' interest in coming to Portland? I mean, why not? The guy won the league's most valuable player award for the second consecutive season and is regarded as the best player in the league. This is the same Blazers' team that went ga-ga over Hedo Turkoglu last summer and it's safe to say that James is a better player.

But the Blazers shouldn't allow James' current mental state to prevent them from trying to woo him to Portland should he join the free agent market.

Getting James in a Blazers' jersey next season would likely take a sign-and-trade, but the Blazers have plenty of tradeable assets consisting of young players with cheap contracts. And everyone, yes, even Brandon Roy or Greg Oden, should be available. But not both players.

James may want out of Cleveland if the Cavaliers lose to Boston, or Orlando in the conference finals, should they make it that far. The current Cleveland team was assembled with only one goal in mind: Winning a NBA championship. Anything less will be considered a major failure and that would be James' legacy in Cleveland. In fact, a loss and the Cavalier fans will begin to turn on James and that may force him out of Cleveland.

James will want to build a new legacy to erase the old one. Why not build a new legacy in Portland?
