Raptors Sign Kleiza To $20M Offer Sheet

I feel like it's very insightful. It represents most non-Raptor fan's views on how this team will turn out.

So every team that is going through a transitional period after losing their franchise player is viewed as a joke then? Rebuilding teams are a joke?

The Raptors signed a 25 year old small forward who could possibly be their starter this upcoming season to a deal that wasn't even valued as the full MLE. He has supposedly added some elements to his game last season when playing for Olympiacos and averaged 17/6 while leading them to the Euroleague Finals (I think, I don't pretend to know about how his time over in Europe went). Yeah, he got overpaid a bit but when you sign restricted free agents more often than not, they are overpaid because you have to give them a large enough contract that the team who owns his rights won't match. Considering the Raptors don't have a true small forward on their roster (Weems and DeRozan are both two guards) I don't see why exactly this deal deserves a:

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

response.

And you do realize that none of the Raptor fans on this board are saying that the Raptors are going to do anything noteworthy this season right? Basically all of us have talked about how they will be one of the frontrunners in the Harrison Barnes Sweepstakes.

^Good input Billy.

I will, when the Suns aren't signing horrible players to just as horrible contracts right now. We aren't banking our future on throw-aways of other teams, so I think we'll be ok. Plus we aren't in a city where no one wants to sign.

And how he did in Europe means absolutely NOTHING in the NBA. Look at some past Euroleague MVPs that have tried to make the transition to the NBA.. How did that go over? There has been 1 MVP from Euroleague has made an impact in the NBA, and that was Anthony Parker. Yeah some teams get lucky and get players who have an impact, but it's more likely the players will fall back into the unknown then flee for Europe again. Bryan Colangelo went from the best GM in the NBA to making a horrible team even more laughable.

The Raptors are a joke. They are going to be so bad, who cares about their core. They've had a consistent pattern of failure ever since 'the shot' that VC missed in the playoffs. They have absolutely nothing to show for. They literally are the joke of the NBA. No one wants to sign there so they overpay their current players, and give ridiculous contracts to mediocre past-NBA players who decided to move to Europe so they aren't forgotten about everywhere. Bosh's plan was genius. He'd play on a crappy team to inflate his stats so he can bolt for a team where he has a shot of even the playoffs. Don't pretend Bosh hasn't had the idea of leaving the Raptors since his rookie season.

Talk to me in 15 years when the Raptors are still struggling to crack the top 10 in the East. If they're still in Toronto, that is.

If they are still in Toronto? Considering the Raptors are always bordering the top 10 in attendance and are owned by one of the richest ownership groups in the league, I don't think they are going anywhere anytime soon.... all of this is in spite of mediocrity at best over the past 15 years, if the Raptors ever became contenders the attendance would be awesome.

The Suns aren't wasting money? Are you kidding me? They just took one of the worst contracts in the league, signed a big man who is scared to go inside, can't rebound and can only hit 3's, to a huge deal... they signed Warrick to a deal comparable to Kleiza and both are role players... I don't think the Raps wanted Kleiza based on his Euro experience considering we tried to get him before he even went over.

Demar and Ed Davis aren't throwaways on other teams, maybe Sonny Weems is, but Demar is far from a throwaway and Davis was a top prospect before he broke his hand if I remember correctly. You are clearly a Raptors hater, I've seen your type before, one of the kids who doesn't cheer for his local team and would rather rip on them for their mistakes.

If you are going to [expletive] on the Raptors you should get your facts straight first.

^^wow Billy you're just full of great responses.

Wanna see a Joke? Turkoglu to Phoenix Suns. Thats a joke :lmao:

Wow so far all of your posts on OTR have really benefited everyone who's read them.

Bigger joke? An all-star player traded for a 5-8 ppg player. Who wins that trade?

You don't know me. I've been a Raptors fan since I started liking basketball in 1999. I go to at least 5 games a season, which is alot considering I live 1.5 hours away. Ask any current Raptor fan that isn't blinded by 'hope' about their current roster moves, they'll agree with me. I try to watch nearly every Raptor game on TV so I think I know a little bit about how they play. I'm also not a 'kid'. You are a kid. What's it like to legally be able to drink and gamble? Oh wait..

The Suns took a chance on an ALL STAR player who failed to succeed on a mediocre team. He was signed to help Bosh, and to help lead the team, but the Raptors couldn't see that Bosh was just counting down the days till Miami, and still put the power in his hands. I'll take a $10M 16-20ppg player over a player who misses one shot and gives up for the rest of the season. You guys will see that Barbosa's contract is 100x worse when you see him play.

And Warrick >>>> Kleiza so that's not even a topic of conversation. Kleiza is a spot up shooter who slashes when he is given a pretty much wide-open lane. I used to watch him play all the time in Denver, I liked his game, but is he worth $20M? Not even close.

The Raptors are signing mediocre players to fill in for what Bosh left behind. I hope you realize that no matter how much attendance the Raptors get, no matter how much money they throw into anything, no big-named free agent will ever want to sign with them. They better hope for another '03-type draft to get a potential superstar.

Just because Demar had 5-10 good games, doesn't give me any proof that he'll turn out to be a star on the Raptors. Ed Davis.. I've never heard of him before the draft so I can't comment on that.

Looks like a struck a nerve, I don't care how old you are it doesn't get rid of the fact your opinion is flawed by your hate.

When was Hedo an all-star? For all I care Barbosa could never suit up in a jersey, the fact we turned that horrible 4 year deal into 2 (and less per year at that) is enough for me, him potentially playing well would be a bonus more than anything.

Kleiza vs Warrick isn't a discussion? They both averaged a similar PPG in similar playing time last time, they are both good for what they do, the only reason the Kleiza contract is much worse in your eyes is pretty obvious. If Linas can give us 25 solid minutes a night (when we are trying to win in a couple years) I have no problem paying him 5M (it'll be less by then, like I said before it is front loaded), there are far worse contracts out there, this is a really manageable deal. I'll be the first to wish we didn't sign him to it, but it isn't worth crying about because it isn't a crippling deal like the Hedo one was.

I am well aware we aren't a desireable place for a superstar to play, but neither is Milwaukee, neither are a bunch of NBA cities for that matter.... all it comes down to is money (which we have if MLSE is willing to spend it at the time) and if we are able to put a winning team together... we will never be able to sign a franchise player like Miami or New York could, but that isn't how you build a team anyways, you build teams through the draft, you add your complimentary pieces via FA, which is something the Raptors can do. It comes down to winning and money, if both are there I am sure they can put the icy arctic image in the back of their head

Demar has had more than 5-10 solid games, he had a rock solid rookie campaign. He shot 50% from the field which is pretty impressive for a rookie, he played well within himself and was always a last option offensively. He has dominated the summer league and has been easily the best player so far, only Hickson is in the same league, he looks like a man among boys out there.... I don't think he will be a superstar but if we are bottom 3 this year or whatever, and add a highly touted prospect, he is a really solid complimentary piece moving forward.

I don't know much about college ball but I do know that at the end of the College year 2 years ago (the year before this one) Davis was slotted as a top 3 pick, he broke his hand and it went downhill from there... If you are a big, can block shots, and hit the glass, and finish with a nice touch around the rim consistently, you are a piece moving forward... not to mention I read somewhere the Spurs were looking to obtain him somehow, which is always a good sign if you draft a guy the Spurs want.

Sorry for the long response again, I keep on rambling smh.

Overpaid, although not as bad as people are saying above. 4 years seems a bit too long though IMO as DeMar and Sonny/someone else should establish themselves as definite starters by the end of year 2.
