NBA team ‘under contract’ if Las Vegas builds an arena

An investment group seeking to build an arena on the Las Vegas Strip claims it is on the cusp of purchasing an NBA team to play in the facility.

For the deal to go through, said Chris Milam, CEO of International Development Management LLC, the group must strike a deal with the county to fund construction of the arena — dubbed the Silver State Arena — slated for the old Wet ’n Wild water park site.

“We have an NBA team under contract,” Milam said, declining to name the franchise. But the deal will take effect only if “other pieces of the puzzle fall into place: One of those pieces will be that a building (arena) is approved,” he said.

The key to Milam’s plan is persuading Clark County to revive its redevelopment area and fund the arena using what is known as tax-increment financing.

Milam is scheduled to make his case to county commissioners at an Aug. 4 meeting.

We should add a Vegas and a St. Louis Basketball team to make the league more exciting. Also, have 18 teams make the play-offs.

I'm all for adding more teams but don't extend the playoffs. There's too many teams as it is.

Dude. But more play-off teams = more games. :D

Eh...the playoffs are way too drawn out as it is.

As for this news, I'd bet my money and say the Kings would be the team to move. The Maloofs have wanted to move the team to Vegas for awhile now, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.

More playoff games = more sweeps + more blowouts.

You call yourself a basketball fan? I want to watch good basketball damnit.

lol thats so narrow minded to say blowouts are boring to watch, it;s still basketball. so that means basketball is boring for you.

oh, and it's still good basketball. these guys are the best players in the world, to say an NBA isn't good basketball is completely idiotic

Blowouts are boring to watch, what makes basketball exciting is its competitive nature, so if one team is up by like 20-30, the other team starts not caring.

you call yourself a basketball fan? i would love more games, more basketball to watch.

If I get bored over the summer there's hundreds of great games online that I haven't seen yet that I can download. I'd rather the live basketball I do watch to have meaning and as much excitement as possible. Also in the summer there is usually international ball to watch, like this year watching the young Team USA try to win Gold at the World Championships.

Personally I want to see the length of the playoffs reduced because the first round is usually blowouts (in 7 game format as opposed to the original 5 game format, where upsets are more likely), the second round is usually forgotten, and then you finally get to the meat-and-bones. Most of the time the prior month and a half makes the Finals anti-climatic and tired.

Kings or Hornets. Maybe the Grizzlies or Warriors? Haha, I'm more interested in what team will move.

it;s out of the Kings or the Pistons

There are rumors that the Pistons may be moving to Las Vegas at some point, but it doesn't sound likely to happen.

Vegas still doesn't have a true NBA arena ready to go and Dave Pemberton of the Oakland Press suggests the Kings are more likely to end up in Vegas than the Pistons. They not only want a new arena, but are owned by the Maloof brothers, who also own the Palms Casino in Las Vegas.
