Dash Posted November 18, 2010 Report Share Posted November 18, 2010 Last season the Spurs were tied with the Dallas Mavericks for holding the oldest NBA roster at 29.17. Over the course of the offseason the Spurs have added some youth in James Anderson (currently injured), Tiago Splitter, Gary Neal and most recently Danny Green. The Spurs average age is now at 27.5, which bumps them ahead of 7-10 teams in that category. Why does it matter? Well because of their new-found youth the Spurs are averaging a whopping 108.5 points per game, which is good for second among team points per game. Wait what? This has to be some sort of joke right? Nope this is real and to further prove my point, the Spurs are also currently averaging the most fastbreak points with 20.6 (tied with the fast paced Golden State Warriors). The old Spurs we all knew and loved (some hated *darts eyes at Suns fans*) are gone and Popovich is now running a new show mixed with high level execution and explosiveness. His scoring and rebounding has hit an all-time low, mainly due to his minutes. If Pop is limiting him, how will this fast team adjust once the playoffs arrive? Will they play through Duncan? Eventually, the elite will figure them out, and that's an issue the Spurs will need to pay most attention to in the second half of the season. Finch23 Posted November 19, 2010 Report Share Posted November 19, 2010 I don't see how RJ and TP are going to "cool off". TP is back To his pre injury form when he can get to the paint at will. It's not like he's making an obscene amount if jumpers. His numbers should stay consistent, and as for RJ... The big difference with his game this year is confidence and aggressiveness. RJ is attacking the basket a lot more and is drawing fouls. His 3pt percentage might drop a bit, but if he stays aggressive he will be fine. The Spurs bench is also better, they have shooters (Neal, Bonner, Anderson) Hill, Splitter and Mcdyess are all solid defenders as well. I'm also not worried about Duncan, yes his points are down but his defense has been really good. The Spurs have enough firepower to allow Dumcan to focus on the defensive end. His limited minutes will keep him more fresh for the PO when things slow down and more plays are run through him. Plus we all know Timmy doesn't start to play until the post season anyway.
