Jose in December

why would you want to deal him?

obviously he can still run an offense pretty effectively. he's on a modest contract and hes not exactly old.

why not keep him?

you must be joking right?

The Raptors are TERRIBLE so anyone of value should be traded so this team can get younger and continue to rebuild. The fact that hes putting up these numbers is good only in the sense that he may now have SOME trade worth, compared to the minimal amount of interest he would experience prior to this december outburst. While i dont think they should make a trade just to make a trade, moving Calderon should still be one of their primary options.

Yes, but hopefully that new said quality player isn't making 10 million dollars annually.

Jose doesn't get paid over 10 million until the last year of his contract...2012-13. i think keeping a PG who has a 9.2/2.5 AST/TO ratio as a starter in 31 minutes is a pretty smart move. he's been shooting 50%+ from the field and 48% from trey. sure his defense sucks, but he more than makes up for that by being a facilitator and knocking down open shots on the offensive end.

is it that important for the Raptors to cut down on the league's 15th highest payroll at around 66 million? 15 million is tied up into Peja Stojakavic, so without him they would have the leagues 28th highest payroll.

are you going to want to do deal Bargnani next year? he will be making 9 million next year... exactly the same amount as Calderon is making this year. or will you want to deal him when he starts making 10 million... in 2012-13.

you realize that once you trade Calderon for that 'quality player' and he develops.... he will most likely be wanting a contract for around the same price that Calderon signed a couple years ago.... and then you are in the same boat. never ending cycle... unless you trade Calderon for a guy that never pans out... then you will save the $ but lose in talent. but hey.... whatever gets your team a better draft pick so you can stockpile on the DeMar DeRozan's of the world.

EDIT: BTW, his A/T ratio over the last month is 3rd overall (behind Joe Johnson and Jason Kidd), just ahead of 4th place Chris Paul. On the year Calderon is behind only Kidd and Paul and just ahead of Rondo. Not bad company at all.
