Noah fined 50K for gay slur

Recommended Posts

"I had 2 rows back from the bulls bench. My tickets should have been behind the heat bench. But their was an over drunk older man yelling at Noah calling his dad a [expletive], and he f's his mom and ect. Noah went off. The fan was escorted out."

The NBA's reasoning (if that really is their reasoning) for the difference in the fines is ridiculous. If they want to say that they fined Kobe more because of his salary, that's fine and I'd agree.

But in essence the NBA just told all the fans that the referees are more important than the paying customer. Can't say anything to a ref, but to a fan-- eh that's ok.

I wonder how long before they just stop doing close ups on a player when he's clearly pissed on the bench. Can the FCC fine a network for someone mouthing a four letter word even if no one hears it?

There are so many errors in this quote, not sure if I can even call it credible

If you think about it, Kobe makes 20 mil, Noah makes 3 mil, Who really got fined harder?

Sounding out the word "gay" or "[expletive]got" is free in this country, as long as you don't play basketball as a sport professionally. Then it's worth 50,000 dollars. Maybe even 100,000 depending on how famous you are.

Wrong, go into work tomorrow and call a co-worker, or better yet a customer, what Kobe called a ref or Noah called a fan, in front of your boss, and you will be fined or fired. These players are being punished by the league which writes their checks, they are showing a bad a image of the league and that's why they are being fined. It is completely justifiable to fine them.

A "bad image" is entirely an opinion. How about I say that Joakim Noah's hair is a bad image. Should he get fined for not trimming the bird nest?

Message is still the same, but I fixed the slight error.

there is a big difference in calling someone gay and a [expletive]got. one doesn't have a negative connotation, the other does. how many gay people do you know that refer to themselves as gay? a lot. how many refer to themselves as [expletive]gots? none

is this really the argument you're going with? are you arguing for the sake of arguing? do you really want to have a business with an employee saying something that is deemed offensive? what if he had used the n word? is that okay with you? what if he used a racial slur for a hispanic? the nba doesn't want want players using offensive language towards fans or officials. just like a wal mart employee won't get away with calling their boss or an employee an offensive term.

BTW things def change for you if you are public figure, as opposed to a nobody. To deny that is completely moronic. Being famous comes with it's perks and it comes with it's cons. If Joakim wants to be treated like a normal person when he says those words then by all means say them in private, or retire from the NBA. However if you are in the NBA you are expected to live up the expectations of David Stern and act as a professional at all times. He is their employer and he can punish them however he wants. Please stop acting like and idiot, like lkr said it's like you arguing for the sake of arguing...

It's stupid that players are being fined for expressing their feelings. It's not a big [expletive]ing deal that a player said "[expletive]ot". Anyone with common sense knows that it's just become a form of expression nowadays, and that it's not intended to offend gay people. It's stupid ass political correctness that is hurting the U.S.

I guess people should be up in arms for any of the following:

-White boy

-[expletive]a

-Fat ass

It's pathetic how sensitive people are today. [expletive]got is just used as a form of expression, whether people like it or not, and it's just reality. Deal with it.

There's a difference between expressing your frustrations and blatantly calling someone a [expletive]got. His intentions were pretty clear, the league saw it on TV, and disciplined him, they weren't going to just let it go when the whole world saw what had occurred.

Yep.

Come on, dude.

Go to the courts with Joakim Noah's hair, and see what happens to you.

Then, shave it off, go back to the courts, and use as many racial and gay slurs as you can on the court, and let us know how things go after that.

Don't compare the two. The league doesn't want to deal with ignorance and immaturity. When you're making millions a year, you should be biting your tongue when talking to fans and referees. I know you're on that "it's a free country" trip, but that doesn't excuse anyone from spitting gay and racial slurs in a professional atmosphere.

In a legitimate job (excluding sports), people get fired for it. You don't walk into an office, dressed nice, ready for work, and throw around racial and gay slurs without someone kicking your ass out the door. You can't even get away with it at a McDonald's, let alone while working for a career-providing company.

I know a few gay people who refer to themselves and others as '[expletive]gots'

Whether it's "right" or "wrong", people need to realize the fact that "[expletive]got" and other words like that are commonly used these days to express anger and other feelings, and they aren't just directed at homosexuals. People don't have to "accept" that fact, but they need to realize that it the reality of the situation.

You still aren't grasping the fact that David Stern must fine anyone who insults a fan on camera. It doesn't matter how common the term is used, the point is, he used it to insult a person in the stands. He's supposed to be the professional in this situation.

Good, then fine someone every time they say "[expletive]a", white boy, retard, ect.
