The United States men's national team announced its 23-man roster for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup, which will be played across the U.S. next month.

Veterans Tim Howard, Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey highlight the roster, which was released by coach Bob Bradley. The biggest surprise additions to the team were Chris Wondolowski, Robbie Rogers and Freddy Adu, who is currently playing in the second division in Turkey.

“We have said since the start of the new cycle that winning the Gold Cup this year is a top priority, and that was our focus as we built this roster,” said Bradley. “We have a very experienced group, and we know that in a tournament like this all 23 players will need to contribute in order for us to be successful.”

Among the roster snubs was Timothy Chandler, who could return to the German national team. Other notable names left off the team were Teal Bunbury and Alejandro Bedoya.

The roster was originally going to be made public at 10 a.m. ET, but the team delayed the announcement to just before 3 p.m. ET due to a last-minute change. Bradley would not comment on the exact reason for the delay.

The U.S. opens its Gold Cup schedule against Canada in Detroit on June 7 followed by matchups against Panama in Tampa on June 11 and Guadeloupe on June 14. The team is set to face Spain in a tuneup game on June 4 in Boston with the same roster.

Freddy Adu is the surprise addition but if Bob Bradley believes in him then its fine by me. Hopefully Altidore doesn't choke like he did in the World Cup.

Bedoya officially replaces Feilhaber on US roster

Midfield switch expected after Feilhaber injured ankle last month

As expected, midfielder Alejandro Bedoya will replace the injured Benny Feilhaber on the Gold Cup roster.

Bedoya has been training with the American squad since May 30, and was the sixth and final substitute used in the 4-0 defeat to Spain on Saturday after coming on for Juan Agudelo in the 65th minute. It was his ninth cap.

Feilhaber injured his ankle playing in the New England Revolution's match with the LA Galaxy on May 28.
