Top 5 Leonardo DiCaprio Movies

 Share

Recommended Posts

Well this is our next actor up for the week. I was really surprised to see barely any response in the Nicholson thread that guy is like movie god to me lol. Leo is a very popular guy for this generation I am hoping we see more people post there top 5 he's one of my favorite actors for sure.

1. http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm233/lebronze23/catchme.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlvE3CbMnLE

I recently watched Catch Me If You Can for a second time and enjoyed it even more than the first. I think Leo just acts his butt off in that movie and proves why he's so versatile in all the different professions he cons himself into throughout the movie. Him and Tom Hanks on the same screen was epic.

2. http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm233/lebronze23/departed.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3d4mHZMtCGg

Have to have it high on my list. Again with all the great actors in this film Leo really hold his own on the screen. No wonder Scorsese loves working with him, he plays the main role with ease in all his films.

3. http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm233/lebronze23/aviator.jpg

Love this movie and once again Scorsese and Leo duo shine. It's a great story about Howard Hughes the aviation guru and the cast is solid. I personally think it was one of Leo's most demanding roles and it's roles like these that put him in the A+ acting category. You know down the line when you look back on some movies you're going to remember this role.

4. http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm233/lebronze23/incep.jpg

I know some people didn't really enjoy the movie that much but I thought it was a modern masterpiece. I'm not a big sci-fi fan but the way they mixed that with action and suspense it was a really cool way to incorporate all this new technology the movies have to offer. Again Leo was great in it and JGL complemented him well.

Ok so we had the most embarrassing shows you watch thread on here right? Well maybe this is embarrassing to admit but I don't care. This mass production of movie making took Leo to another level. So if nothing the epic impact of this movie just sky rocketed his already popular career. I think when you make a movie that big it takes legit acting chops and patience and it seems like Leo had that all. It's just a big powerful movie, and whenever they play it on TV I find myself watching bits and pieces of it. Finch knows what i'm saying.

Yeah I hope this one will have more success than the Jack one as well lol...

Well anyhow I ain't a big fan of Di Caprio fan, he's a good actor but not a great one IMO... But I'm still able to make a top 5 lol. Anyway here it goes :

Catch Me if You Can

Saw that one not so long ago but really loved it. One of the best movies of the decade and defintely my fav of Leo.

There is no Leo in that scene but I have to post it in that thread nonetheless cause it's definitely my fav scene lol, best joke ever :

What's Eating Gilbert Grape ?

I've always loved this movie, besides Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors... And Leo was great in it, in fact he didn't even have to act, he was REALLY himself in that movie as you can see for yourself :

Shutter Island

One of my favorite movies of the decade and Di Caprio's best performance IMO. Definitely a masterpiece.

Probably the funniest scene of the movie :

The Departed

Very good movie, Scorsese ain't what he used to be in the 70's/80's any longer (sadly) but he still makes great movies and this one sure is one of them.

No Di Caprio in that scene again, but it's my fav of the movie so.. :

The Basketball Diaries

One of the first movies I've seen with Di Caprio and definitely one of my favorite ones.

Here's a scene that I post especially for AboveLegit, I know he's gonna LOVE it. Don't thank me BelowLegit and try to keep it in your pants :

Yeah I have seen This Boy's Life. It was quite some time ago though, more than ten years.... I really liked it. I thought about mentioning it in my list but I couldn't put it over the other ones...

I need to rewatch it, quite a good movie indeed. And one of De Niro's most disturbing roles.

Shutter Island was absolute crap. Story was a drag and quite simply it just didn't hold my attention. Above Legit's list is pretty accurate imo, the Departed is hands down his best work imo.

Yeah I can understand that some people did not like Shutter Island. It is not the usual mainstream movie and it is not easy for the average movie goer to undertand this movie. Just like a lot of other great movies, I heard people saying that movies like Lynch movies (especially Mulholland and Lost Highway), Jarmusch movies, some Kubrick movies like Eyes Wide Shut (I even heard once some friend of mine saying that Clockwork Orange was crap and that he preferred "Speed" and by far... It's his opinion, he's entitled to it, but still I was literally shocked at the time that and needless to say that I never had a movie discussion with him again after that lol), Terry Gilliam movies, etc, etc, etc... were "crap" as well. Hard for a lot of people to undertand movies like that but I personally love this kind of movies. Definitely pure masterpieces to me. But then again I am not the average movie goer and I have watched a freaking lot of movies, probably way more than everyone else on this forum (don't wanna brag lol but it's the truth). And I loved Shutter Island. As I already said it's definitely one of my favorite movies of the decade. And the best Scorsese I've seen since the 90's.

So anyway I can understand that you do not like it, I'm perfectly fine with it, but you have no right to call it "crap" at the same time. It is not because you do not like a movie that it is crap. We just can't all have the same tastes, that's all.

And ABL's list is not accurate by the way. The purpose of these threads that htown and I do every week is to post your five FAVORITE movies of an actor, not the five best ones... Which would not make any sense anyhow since there is no such thing as "best" in art. As I said many times a movie can be the best of All Time for some people and at the same time the worst ever for some others... It is purely a matter of taste.

So ABL posted his five favorite movies. And apparently you have the same tastes as him, which is, once again, perfectly fine.

I would also like to precise something that apparently many people have not understood yet, the purpose of this thread is not to comment or criticize other people's lists but to make a list of your own which so far only htown, ABL, fish and I have done.

You know for me Shutter Island was somewhat of a letdown. I don't entirely blame the movie for that but I set the bar way to high and came out of that movie thinking ya it was good but I was looking for great.

When you have any Scorsese movie being released you have the highest expectations on the planet because of his past work the bar is obviously set at a standard most directors can't touch IMO and in Shutter Island I felt like it was good but not great. I think many others felt that way as well, ranging from critics to fans in general. I know some people don't value what critics say because in some twisted way they think the critic is trying to tell them what to do lol but I do value what movie critics say because they significantly have a rich movie background, and I trust there expertise. I don't always agree but I do take it into consideration when watching a movie. Movie tickets are no longer cheap these days and I am just picky about what I watch lol.

As far as new Scorsese goes I put The Departed and Aviator far above Shutter Island but like Oliver said it's a matter of taste.

It's not the easiest thing in the world to separate favorite movie from just individual performance because some movies just have great casts and great plots. I know a lot of times when I describe a movie I take it as a complete package and not just one specific role, so I can understand the challenge of just ignoring the external aspects and just focusing on the actor or actress alone.
