What to look at when hunting for the Knicks' future point guard?

Is it more important for the Knicks to focus on defensive-minded players in their backcourt, or look to bring in a facilitating, pass-first PG and try to find a defensive anchor up front? Or, should they find another scorer at the point? Would you consider that player's veteran experience, or even any kind of leadership on the college or NBA level, or is that less relevant?

With Melo and Amare being so ball dominant on offense, you need somebody that doesn't need the ball in his hands to make an impact. You also definitely need to find somebody who can guard the point of attack considering the lack of defense that you have from your two star players.

A Kirk Hinrich with better ball skills and a more reliable perimeter jumper would be the kind of point guard that I think the Knicks would like to add.

Knicks need to get better defensively. Top priority should be getting a defensive anchor. Look at how Tyson Chandler made the Mavs into a completely different team. I dunno that they can get a guy like that but they can sign a guy like Dalembert or Przybilla. They already have two backcourt players who can potentially be really good defensively in Toney Douglas and Iman Shumpert.

The bigger problem is getting D'Antoni to get the team to defend.
