No. 1 pick Newton signs 4-year, $22M deal

Panthers agreed to terms with No. 1 overall pick QB Cam Newton on a fully guaranteed four-year, $22 million contract.

There's also a fifth-year non-guaranteed option worth $14 million. For frame of reference, Sam Bradford landed a six-year, $78 million deal with $50 in guarantees last year. We've quickly learned that the new CBA has taken all of the suspense out of first-round contracts while effectively shutting down rookie holdouts. As of early July, the Charlotte Observer was convinced Jimmy Clausen would open the season as the Panthers starter. Barring a veteran addition such as Marc Bulger, Newton has a fair shot to take the reins even with a lost offseason.

Now thats the way contracts should be for players that have never played an NFL game, good to see this shit was taken care of during the 4 1/2 month negotiations.
