According to PWInsider, that while CM Punk may have lost momentum since his the summer because he has been put on the back burner, sources claim that this isn't the case.

WZ had an exclusive about CM Punk becoming the new number one in merchandise sales. It seems that this surprised the WWE but also impressed them. The company wants to find ways to capitalize on the CM Punk popularity. Talk of WWE Studos looking for projects for him also a possibility of a CM Punk book because the WWE has decreased the amount of books they have put out recently.

More CM Punk merchandise is expected along with a big part of WWE's plan in 2012. CM Punk will be heavily featured in pay-per-views and all WWE programming. The report claims that WWE will be going "full blown" when it comes to CM Punk.

The plan still remains for Punk to headline several PPV's with WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio. If and when John Cena gets involved is not yet known but WWE wants build sympathy for CM Punk when he loses as they grow to something much bigger.

And the following article confirms a few statistics.

WrestleZone has confirmed that an internal memo sent to WWE staffers this week listed the top 10 merchandise sellers, and John Cena has been replaced for the first time in several years as the number one seller.

The new number one?

CM Punk.

According to the memo, Punk is the number one merchandise selling WWE Superstar both on WWE Shop Zone and at the live events. The only time Cena was not number one was when The Rock returned to WWE Monday Night Raw, and his t-shirts sold a record number on ShopZone.

According to a key source in WWE, two of Punk's shirts have already eclipsed the Rock's one-day sales record. "Punk's merchandise is hot," our source told us, "no one has dethroned Cena in over 5 years, and Punk's numbers are way above anything or anyone else."

WrestleZone previously reported that another surprising WWE star has cracked the top 10 in terms of merchandise sales, and you can read more on that if you

Yeah, it's shaping out to be that way...Punk being in the title scene at WM (whether he has it or not).

Cena will wrestle The Rock.

HHH will fight Vince for control of the WWE. Vince's farewell, forever, basically.

After beating Show and Kane (when they return), Henry will run into Taker, and that will be the WM match-up. Either that, or Kane will eventually return with the mask, going ballistic on people, and Taker will come back and challenge him at WM. Henry will fight someone (crossing my fingers for a Lesnar or Goldberg return, but I wouldn't mind seeing Mason Ryan fight Henry, either). Could be Henry and Sheamus.

Beth or Kelly will fight Kharma.

Cody Rhodes will defend, if he has the strap at WM (or whoever has it, because the WWE wants to make the Intercontinental belt significant again).

Pretty crazy, it will be interesting to see if Punk can maintain his super overness right now. He is definitely fun to watch, just hope the WWE and Punk himself can keep it fresh.

I can't help but feel a lot of Punk's popularity lately is because of who he has been feuding with (Cena). He has always been over, but didn't get to this level until he got in the ring with Cena.

Yeah that sounds about right although I'm not sure if Punk's role in the chairman angle is over yet (still too many holes in the plot to take him out of it already but that hasn't bothered the WWE before).

Hopefully they'll save Punk - Austin for WM 29.

Nah, I agree. I think Punk will be in the title scene, but no way is his involvement with the angle over with. They just won't throw him into the current conspiracy angle because, quite frankly, he and Triple H are both faces at this point, and it's Vince who Punk really despises at the end of the day. Punk will be standing behind HHH when Vince returns and leads his conspiracy group, and funny enough, Punk will have to take sides.
