ALVIN GENTRY TALKS CLIPPERS

Phoenix Suns head coach Alvin Gentry, who manned the sidelines for the Clippers from 2000-2003, talked about DeAndre Jordan, Lamar Odom and numerous other Clipper-related topics. Among other things, he said he doesn’t see any reason why the Clippers should not be thinking about playing for a title in June.

On DeAndre Jordan:

“I think somebody said he’s scored one basket outside the paint in the last two years and I wanted to know why that was a negative. I’d like to figure out how that’s a negative, if a guy is getting all of his baskets right at the rim. I think he’s made great improvements. I think overall, his footwork, and what he’s done offensively. And obviously, he’s got the best guy in the world throwing lob passes to him, so he’s come up with a lot of easy baskets.”

On Lamar Odom:

“Things change in 10 years. I think he still a very good player.I think he’s still a guy that can play three positions on the floor, I think he’s still a guy that can rebound the heck out of the basketball. They don’t need for Lamar to do the things we needed him to do when I was here as the Clippers head coach. He doesn’t have to be that kind of player but he can be really important to his team. I really think that he can be really important.”

Good. He won't be the West's Player of the Month though.

Tyrus Thomas’s Wife Arrested Following a Fight at Chris Paul’s Party

Chris Paul hosted a party in Charlotte after playing against the Bobcats last night. A fight broke out, and one of the people who were arrested happened to be Tyrus Thomas’s wife. WCNC has the wild details, and mugshot of a bruised-up Jamie Patrice Thomas (via TBL): “Six people, including the wife of a Charlotte Bobcats player, were arrested during a fight outside an uptown bar early Thursday morning after a party hosted by NBA star Chris Paul. The fight took place around 2:30 a.m. in the parking lot at the NC Music Factory outside of the Label night club where a party hosted by the Los Angeles Clippers star guard had just wrapped up. Jamie Patrice Thomas, wife of Charlotte Bobcats forward Tyrus Thomas, was one of four women arrested during the altercation. Thomas and three other women tried to rob another woman of her cell phone and purse before hitting a security guard at the scene, according to the police report. When officers arrived, Thomas was in a car in the parking lot and tried to leave the scene, hitting a security guard with her car for the second time, police said. Charlotte police then had to force Thomas, 26, out of the vehicle. ‘Officers gained entry to the vehicle by breaking the driver window. Officers were able to open the door after breaking the window,’ CMPD said in a statement. ‘A female inside of the vehicle, Shassity Stevenson, began pulling Thomas back inside of the vehicle away from the officers. During the struggle officers had to utilize force in order to extract Thomas from the vehicle via the driver’s side door of the vehicle.’ Thomas was taken to Carolinas Medical Center to receive treatment before being taken to jail.”

- We are now all the way up to number 2(!) in defensive efficiency, trailing only the Indiana Pacers.

- Griffin has his PER all the way up to 23.3 now, he has cracked the top 10 (he is tied for 8th with only 7 players ahead of him: James, Durant, Paul, Anthony, Bryant, Duncan and Harden). We could conceivably have two players ranked in the PER top 5 by the end of the season, and 3 in the top 20 if Bledsoe can hold on.

- Matt Barnes has his PER all the way up to 18.3.

- Odom continues to increase his PER, he is now up to 10.6, and is only .4 away from catching Caron Butler (11).

- According to the OC Register this morning, VDN says there is still no timetable for Chauncey to return.

- We are now 9 games ahead of the Lakers in the loss column.

What makes this 20-game stretch unique is that there are flights after each of the first 18 games and only four at home. That's just BEASTY!!

Barnes, Green among NBA's most underrated:

Matt Barnes hustles, plays aggressive mean-spirited defense, is a three-point threat, and routinely antagonizes opponents. If he’s on your team, you love him. If he’s not, you hate him. That’s one of the best endorsements any player can have.

(...) Willie Green defends, drops an occasional trey, never stops hustling, and is rarely out of position. Watch how well he plays off the ball.

Clippers Agree to 10-year Extension on Staples Center Lease The Clippers agreed to a 10-year extension on their lease at the Staples Center, which owner Philip Anschutz put up for sale in September.

Terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed by the National Basketball Association team, which played its first regular season at the venue on Nov. 2, 1999. The new lease runs through June 2024.

“It is indeed an honor to benefit from the sustained stability that accompanies being part of the greatest venue in the NBA, and we are glad to provide this state of the art backdrop to our deserving and loyal fan base,” said Clippers’ President Andy Roeser in a statement.
