LA Clippers at San Antonio

Real Deal

Not sure what to think about tonight's game. My head says that Parker and the Spurs have always been able to do a decent job on Paul, and that would make the rest of the Clippers appear like the mötley crew they have always been. My gut, though, fears that this could get ugly.

Nice first quarter for the Spurs. Dejuan Blair needs to continue to use that power move in the post instead of his spin hook. Blake Griffin is beasting, but thats not surprising. CP3 looks lost IMO. The Spurs team defense has been great thus far, keep it up for 36 more minutes.

This is why I am not nearly as high on the Clippers as many people are.

Billups simply can't be your starting shooting guard if you hope to make a deep run in the playoffs. Ginobili is absolutely torching him on defense and you just know that a team with an above average offensive shooting guard is going to make it a focal point of their offense to go right at him.

They really need to find a way to upgrade that shooting guard spot if they hope to make a serious run this season. Whether that is through an Eric Bledsoe trade or what, I don't know, but they have to find a way to upgrade there.

Griffin is going to work on Blair right now. Blair just doesn't have the speed to stay with him as once Blake spins, he creates way too much seperation for Blair to be able to contest his shot.

It also doesn't hurt that he gets those kind of lucky bounces like the one he got on that 15 foot jumper. Off front rim, bounces high in the air, hits nearly the top of the backboard and then falls in.

This is what happens when Deandre Jordan is your only defense and the refs aren't calling the flops in your favor. SA came on fire with hitting 60% of shots coming into the 4th. Both sides played the flopping game early, but you can't expect to win that game against SA. Get back to work on that defense Vinny.

This was a great Griffin game though. It's hard to root for them as i did before because of the CP3 situation, but Griffin made an entertaining game.

The way SA played they would have beaten anyone. No blame on the coaches or players. When the opposing team can't miss with catch and shoot techniques you are in for a long night. We were out rebounded due their great shooting - lack of opportunities. VDN didn't let the game get out of control and even late in the 4th - the Clips played with poise. No team can play like SA last night for a whole season. We'll get our revenge later in the season...

Boston and Dallas have already lost two games each, and the Lakers didn't start very well, did they. Golden State beat the Bulls after we walloped them. So, there are crazy things going on and last nights game is just one of them. Remember, San Antonio won 61 games last year to lead the NBA. And they were on fire. But let's hope it motivates our boys for Friday nights game.

This Spurs team is about 10x better than they were last year for a few reasons. The biggest reason, Pop is playing Tiago Splitter significant minutes. Instead of seeing Blair and Bonner on the floor for long periods of time (which is horrible defensively) you have another legit center to protect the rim. When Splitter and Duncan are on the floor together the defense improves drastically which is something we hardly ever saw last year.

Another reason is the health of Manu Ginobili. In the last regular season game last year Pop was an idiot and played Manu, well he fractured his arm and was pretty ineffective in that Memphis series. People who don't watch the Spurs normally don't understand how much of an impact this guy has every game. He's been the Spurs MVP since 2005.

Last reason is Pop is trusting the young guns. In years past rookies would spend most of their time on the bench (ie Splitter, Hill, Beno etc). In the first game the first player to check in off the bench was Kawai Leonard and James Anderson. That would have never happened in years past. It also helps that Kawai and Anderson can play, but it's a very good sign none the less.
