CELTICS' GARNETT OUT VS. PISTONS

  • Boston forward Kevin Garnett will miss the game for personal reasons and backup forward Brandon Bass did not make the trip because of a sore left knee. “This was a road trip I had really been looking forward to,” Boston coach Doc Rivers said. “We thought Kevin would be good and Brandon would be healthy. Now, we don’t have either one for this game and maybe two, so that makes it a tough trip.”
  • Chris Wilcox, who played with the Pistons last year, will start in place of Garnett. JaJuan Johnson and Greg Stiemsma will get increased minutes.
  • The Pistons defeated the Celtics 98-88 five nights ago and Detroit coach Lawrence Frank is certain Boston will have revenge on its mind. “They’re going to come out and try to impose their will defensively,” said Frank, a Celtics assistant last season. “Every pass, every dribble, every shot will be contested and they’re really going to focus on freeing up Paul (Pierce) and Ray (Allen), getting those guys open shots.”
