Reggie Evans may be exactly what the Clippers need. The team signed the 31-year-old forward as a free agent on Tuesday, Dec. 20. Evans is a rebounding machine, doesn’t need the ball offensively, and can provide 10-15 minutes per night of gritty defense in the post. To an extent, he will perfectly complement Brian Cook and Trey Thompkins, the other primary big men off the bench.

Cook and Thompkins will be relied upon as “stretch” players, spacing the floor and forcing opposing bigs to guard them on the perimeter. With Evans on the court, the Clippers add a player who averaged 11.5 boards in 30 games last year and 20.8 per 48 minutes (tops in league). He’s only 6-foot-9, but he leverages his 245-pound frame when matched up with taller opponents and has a knack for keeping the ball alive on the offensive glass.

While Evans might not fill up any other stat column, he is also playoff tested, appearing in 27 postseason games with 11 starts. He emerged as a key member of the Sonics during their run into the second round in 2004-05, providing energy and toughness alongside scorers Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis.
