Steph Curry's Ankle Problems: How Serious Are They?

Recommended Posts

How serious do you think his reoccuring ankle problems are? He has had ankle issues for basically the entire season this year (sprained it 3 times in a 16 day period and has sprained it 7 times in the past 15 months), he missed time last season and he has visited specialists in regard to his troublesome ankle. He has already had surgery on the ankle and based on how this season started, that doesn't seem to have helped very much either. He has had specialized shoes made for him and, again, no help.

The latest reports say that there is no structural damage, which is good news, but given his long track record of ankle problems, you can't help but wonder when the next problem will flare up.

So again, how bad do you really think his ankles are? Is this a matter of him simply not giving it time to heal properly and, because of that, it was more susceptible to re-aggrivating? Or is this something that could have the potential to plauge him his entire career?

I'm not sure exactly what his prognosis is, but generally speaking some people are just more succeptible to ankle sprains than others. With the way he's built, I think he'd be best served to really strengthen it through lifting, and then diligently stretch it after workouts (which is when you build most flexibility) and also before and during games. If you strengthen the muscles and tendons, and make them more flexible, it should at least decrease the chance of in-game injury.

Honestly, he needs to sit out the entire season. I didn't have to have surgery on my ankle, but it's terrible, even today, after busting it up in high school. I still have a hard time pivoting and jumping, can't dunk anymore, less elevation on my jumper.

On NBATV, they were making it sound pretty bad, that it was very serious. If he had special shoes made for him (didn't know this), and all of those treatments and surgeries have yet to keep him on his feet for an extended amount of time, that's a major issue he's going to have to tend to.

If there's no structural damage, and it's bad enough to keep him out of games...he needs to sit until it's fully healed, then sit some more. Give it extra time.

I could be wrong and that they weren't specifically made for him, but when watching a game earlier in the season I remember the Golden State commentators mentioning that he was wearing new shoes and I am about 95% sure that they mentioned that he went to Nike (he does have a deal with Nike, right?) and they made a special shoe for him with more ankle support.

I know for a fact that he switched up his shoes to ones with more ankle support after the 1st or 2nd sprain this season and they didn't do anything for him and he sprained it again a few games later.

Yeah, Stephen Curry has a customized shoe from Nike made for him for better ankle support. However, even that did not work. :(

He sprained his ankle pretty bad a couple of times during the pre-season. He should not have played int he first game of the year against the Clippers, yet because of publicity reasons, the Warriors front office had him play. Knowing Curry, he was going to play and getting the thumbs up from the main guys was plain stupid. Trainers said he wasn't ready, yet he played and had a terrible game due to the injury.

The injury is bad enough that I believe he won't ever be able to play to his full potential. You can tell he doesn't have the same urgency to get to the rim anymore because of his ankle. He went up for a rebound against the Spurs and really [expletive]ed it up bad on the fall.

From what I have seen, his play has not progressed at all since his ankle started having problems. Until he gets proper rest needed, he won't get back to the level that he was before. Once he does come back though, I fear that he's going to be less aggressive because of the ankle injury fear.
