ARTICLE . 02.11.2012. REALGM. BRYANT APPROVES SIGNING OF ARENAS DEAL

  • Not only do the Lakers intend to take a look at Gilbert Arenas whenever he holds a workout in his attempt to reignite his career, the team also has Bryant's blessing to sign him,
  • Kobe Bryant would give his approval for the signing of Gilbert Arenas, according to two people familiar with the situation. Bryant reportedly reached out to Arenas recently to let him know he’s on board with Arenas joining the Lakers.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. I doubt Kobe really wants him on board, but when you take a look at our PG situation, it's very evident we need something.

Arenas is not the answer, though, unless Kobe sends him to Germany.

Trainwreck waiting to happen.

Honestly, the Lakers are in a tough spot. IMO they should look into trading Gasol and get younger/deeper. Kobe and Bynum can play together but its the pieces around them that are bringing this team down. Oh, and Mike Brown should be gone by the ASG.

There's a rumor that he's undergone that procedure already. But when Nick Young is the source, how accurate can that really be.

Anyways, I wouldn't mind getting Arenas just because he's probably the best FA that the Lakers can get and, if nothing else, Arenas is as good as you can expect for a 13th man. But I doubt he plays much unless Brown sacks up and puts Fisher on the bench, and even then I'd rather Goudelock get more burn. He's proven to be a spark of the bench and actually can create a shot for himself and has been surprisingly better than expected defensively.

(...) Arenas is not the answer, though, unless Kobe sends him to Germany.
Seems like they’ve already worked Arenas out, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPNLosAngeles.com:

The Lakers are clearly in need of something more than they have on the current roster to get them cranked up again. But Arenas? He’s prepared himself for the possibility, according to the report:

Arenas, who turned 30 last month, looked “slimmed down” and “explosive,” according to a source with knowledge of the workout, but no signing is necessarily imminent as the guard flew back to his home in Orlando, Fla., from Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Arenas recently underwent a similar blood-spinning procedure on both of his knees and hips that Lakers guard Kobe Bryant visited Germany during the offseason to receive. Arenas was treated by Dr. Edward Capla in New York City. Capla used to work under Dr. Peter Wehling, who treated Bryant and New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez. After Arenas reported the procedure made his left knee, which had undergone three operations since 2006, feel springy again, he recommended Capla to former teammate and New Jersey Nets guard DeShawn Stevenson, who also received the treatment.
