Clippers Frontrunners to Trade for Ray Allen

Report: Celtics’ Paul Pierce, Ray Allen Rumored In Potential Trades

While much of the trade buzz surrounding the Boston Celtics has been about young All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo, a report today indicated that it’s two other C’s generating more attention from GMs around the league. Paul Pierce and Ray Allen are both getting a lot of interest, according to Comcast SportsNet New England.

The Los Angeles Clippers are considered a frontrunner to land Allen, should Danny Ainge and the Celtics choose to deal him. The Clips have an opening at the shooting guard position with the season-ending injury to Chauncey Billups, and Allen’s expiring contract would make for an easy two-month rental to fill the void.

The Clips are also one of the teams in on Pierce, along with the L.A. Lakers and Houston Rockets, but Pierce is a bit trickier contractually — he’s signed through 2014 and still owed another $32 million after this season. Pierce is still going strong as the youngest of the team’s veteran Big Three. At age 34, he’s averaging 17.2 points per game to lead the team. The Celtics are an even .500, 17-17, going into tomorrow night’s tilt with the New Jersey Nets. The trade deadline is fast approaching on March 15.

what can the Clips possibly trade for Allen? Butler and Mo Williams?

Beat me to it.

Then again, Danny also traded one of the few defensive anchors in the league for a player who doesn't have a position, so I guess anything is possible? if Clippers swindle Allen from the C's, they take another step as a serious threat at the top of the west.
