Embedding Videos

Has anyone else had a problem embedding videos from youtube lately?

 

I have no clue why I can't embed them anymore.........

Some of you are posting the links with extras in them.

This above is the guts of your URL...you'll always see that. What SHOULD follow?

 

v=XCADLj0Y1QE

The "v" stands for video, of course...and then you have the video code.

 

Extras would be added to the URL with an "&" sign...

 

&feature=player_embedded

Sometimes, those URL's will work IF you have the video code FIRST. But, I see a lot of this:

 

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XCADLj0Y1QE

 

And that will not work (video code placed after the extras).

What I always do is is hit Share>Options>Long link and then copy and paste that link.

I've done it that way many time just using the end of the link, but I know I have used the "media" button where you just put the entire url in, and it had worked multiple times for me.

 

Anyways, I'll just go back to how I always used to embedd them, but I swear it's changed on me....... .

Yes sir. I actually didn't realize they had put into place a short link system, never have used those options before.

I figured out what was wrong.

 

It won't parse if I am pasting a url that is from an embedded video. So, if I clicked on a video to watch and it opened in a new window, I have to post the url without the embedding part.

That works (with the embed code at the end).

 

But, like I said, if you have the embed code BEFORE the video ID in the URL, it won't parse.

That won't work.

 

I really can't do anything about the inconvenience. Wish I could. Basically, the tag (it adds a media tag, whether you use one or not) is specifically coded to read the video ID first. If there are any extras, it can actually parse that as well (ex. starting a video on load), but all of that has to come after the video ID.

 

It's kind of annoying, but then again, it really doesn't take that long to edit it out of the URL (or just look at the placement).
