Carmelo Anthony Vs Paul Pierce

Right now, it's Pierce all day. He was more about team than Melo, and it shows by sticking with the Celtics organization and trusting in them to make a move. His playoff acumen speaks for itself. Carmelo, meanwhile, has let trade talks, free agency, and other controversies affect the locker room. After he left Denver, look how well the Nuggets played as a team. Sure, he sells tickets, and can be labeled as the guy of your franchise. But, I feel I have a better chance of winning with Pierce on my team, and I don't have to work as hard to build a team around him. With Carmelo, it seems that it has been a hard task to build a winner around him in Denver and New York. Just look at the playoff history. Boston wasn't just good in the Big Three era. With Pierce, they advanced past the first round twice before KG and Ray Allen got there.

Sure, Pierce has had a longer career, so there is a bigger body of work. Carmelo still has time to adjust his game and become better at winning. But because I don't think Carmelo will ever achieve such success in this league - I think he'll be lucky to reach the finals in his career - I think we'll look back and say Pierce had a better career and was a better overall player.

Well, Pierce is already considered one of the greatest Celtics of all time. I mean...Bird, Russell, Havlicek, Cousy, McHale...that's good company...and he's definitely not on Bird's level, but what he has done in Boston, over time, makes his career memorable.

Melo really hasn't done anything, anywhere...and the way it's looking, I'm not sure if he will for a long, long time.

Right now, you're kind of obligated to say Pierce.

Pierce without Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett didn't do anything, anywhere, either...

It's still Pierce though. Pierce, IMO, has always been a very underrated player. He isn't flashy at all, but he seems to always hit a big shot when the Celtics need him to. He's also been an underrated defensive player, and plus, he's won a Championship, so that's obviously a huge plus in Pierce's favor when comparing the two.

Carmelo still has a chance to go down as one of the best ever...his only problem is somewhat similar to LeBron's...his playoff success. If Carmelo can put 2-3 years together where they make strong playoff pushes, or hell, maybe one year ACTUALLY win a NBA Finals, I think he's right up there with some of the best players to ever play the game, at least at his position.

Unless Carmelo can build on his game and play more then just all about me offense then it will always be Pierce. Melo still has time though, and Pierce only has one championship. So if Melo could win a championship, he might be considered close.

He didn't, but that's irrelevant. Everyone has teammates. Jordan had Pippen (named top 50 of all-time years ago) and Rodman (greatest defensive player ever), but very few talk about that as much as they talk about Magic's teammates (Kareem, Worthy, Cooper, Scott and Green).

Twenty years from now, people will recognize Pierce as the leader of that 2008 championship squad, since he is the guy those two (KG and Ray Ray) came to play with, and he will have the Boston franchise scoring record (I think he does right now, actually)...and if Melo comes out empty-handed, there won't be much to remember him by.

It may not be fair, but that's just the way it goes.

Strictly judging by the player, though...while Melo has been the better scorer, Pierce is a very good scorer as well, but also played pretty good defense over the years, and was also a better teammate (in regards to creating for others). So, if I'm asked which player I want in their primes, it's Pierce...even though I hate his face.
