Myck Kabongo Suspended for Season

The NCAA will suspend Texas guard Myck Kabongo for the remainder of the season, Yahoo! Sports reported Wednesday night.

Kabongo has been sitting out while the NCAA investigates whether he retained an agent, if he told the truth about whether he paid for a workout in May and if Texas was aware of his intentions to go to Cleveland for a May workout after his freshman season.

Kabongo considered declaring for the NBA draft but decided against it. Now he's paying for even flirting with the idea of an NBA-style workout.

Yahoo! Sports initially reported about the apparent impermissible benefits transgression when Kabongo worked out with his friend, fellow Canadian and former Texas player Tristan Thompson, who is now with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kabongo worked out with trainer Jerry Powell, who is connected with Rich Paul, an agent for LeBron James.

Most NCAA punishments for impermissible benefits include a suspension of up to 10 games and repayment of the benefits. Kabongo is being penalized because he didn't give the NCAA all the information he had when asked, multiple Texas officials told ESPN.com.

In 2009, Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant was suspended for the entire season after the NCAA said he lied while it investigated him.

Pretty stupid of Kabongo to lie or withhold information from the NCAA when they were investigating him, but I honestly think the whole investigation in the first place was just absurd, at least based on what has been released to the public.

smh. I was really looking forward to seeing him this year. Hoping he would be improved from last year. Canada needs all the NBA players they can get. Looks like Kabongo might not be one of them. Maybe if he comes back next year and plays really well.
