The Rockets have added another guard to their growing list of training camp options in the backcourt, signing Rashad McCants to a non-guaranteed contract, a person with knowledge of the deal said Thursday.

McCants averaged 9.6 points per game last season, and has averaged 10 points per game in four seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings. A 6-4 guard, he was the 14th player taken in the 2005 NBA Draft after helping North Carolina to the national championship.

I'm honestly not really sure what this will do. McCants does need a new direction, though. I just don't see him taking the ball out of anyone's hands for at least the first 20 games, but if Houston starts looking ugly, Adelman could change it up a bit.

Then again, who really knows when McGrady will return...and that would have a negative effect on Rashad's role on the team.

Well he's gone...already.

HOUSTON - Free agent guard Rashad McCants is no longer with the Rockets.

He had been given an invitation to join the team and try to earn a spot on the roster during training camp. McCants, however, is not healthy enough to take part in the workouts, so he is no longer with the team.

However, there is a possiblitiy that the Rockets will revisit bringing McCants back at some point.
