Victoria's Secret Angel Marisa Miller made a special appearance at the Berto Center following practice on Thursday to present Derrick Rose with his Victoria's Secret “What’s Sexy Now Chicago Athlete” nomination.

Marisa Miller and Derrick RoseBelieve it or not, Rose and Miller have a few things in common. Both excelled at sports at a young age, with Rose dominating on the basketball court growing up on the south side of Chicago and Miller a high school standout volleyball player in California.

So, Marisa, why is Derrick sexy?

“Well first of all, basketball is sexy,” said the 31-year old supermodel. “Any athlete is sexy, they have talent. I actually met Derrick [Wednesday] night and he has these long eyelashes and gorgeous eyes. He’s sexy.”

Believe it or not, Rose and Miller have a few things in common. Both excelled at sports at a young age, with Rose dominating on the basketball court growing up on the south side of Chicago and Miller a high school standout volleyball player in Santa Cruz, California. She also surfs and has recently taken up boxing.

They are also both former No. 1s—Rose went first in the 2008 NBA Draft, while Miller finished at the top of Maxim magazine’s 2008 “Hot 100” list.

So how does Miller define being sexy, aside from looks?

“I think confidence is a big part of it,” she said. “Obviously if you’re an athlete you have to have a mental toughness, stamina, and a good physique, right?”

Speaking of confidence, Miller wasn’t afraid to take the court with Rose before a group of watchful media and onlookers. Rose came away impressed, in more than one way.

“She’s pretty good,” he said. “She surprised a lot of people. I didn’t think she’d come out and shoot, but she did. She made some free throws and scored on me a couple times. I wasn’t about to block her shot; I just let her go.”

Rose will compete for the award against the Bears’ Brian Urlacher and the Blackhawks’ Patrick Sharp.

“Chicago is an amazing city and the nominations were tough,” admitted Miller. “But I feel Derrick is a very strong pick to win."

While finally returning to practice may have been the best part of Rose’s day, he won’t forget meeting Miller anytime soon.

“She’s a nice looking woman,” Rose said, stating the obvious. “Everybody in the gym knew that. But she’s down to earth. Some people like that you meet and they aren’t like that. She’s cool. I’ll have to beg her to come to a Bulls game sometime soon.”
