Erick Blasco's NBA Gameplan Episode 1

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I've been working hard the past two weeks to put together a small video piece highlighting some of the things I mention in my articles. It's not too timely (video editing is a [expletive]) but this is the first episode. It's about the Milwaukee Bucks and Greg Oden. It's amateurish, but I know some of the mistakes I made and how to correct them. I don't know how to embed so I'll just link to the video.

Enjoy!

"This is a private video. Do you have permission to watch this video? If you do please log in to Vimeo to watch this video."

I'd like to watch it, but I'm not setting up an account. Is there a reason that you didn't upload it to Youtube?

It says that?

Setting up an account with Vimeo is 100% free.

Youtube restricts videos to 10 minutes. Most of these clips will be longer than 10 minutes.

Very nice man. I watched it and I remember watching that Spurs game. Oden had flashes of greatness in the game but also flashes of a lost kid not knowing what to do. I was very impressed with how he over powered Tim Duncan on the one player to lay it in.

Keep these up.

Awesome video man, I really enjoyed it. I like how you broke it down, and pointed things out that most viewers probably wouldn't catch in the middle of a game. Good stuff. :dribble:

As for the video limit, you can sign up for a director's account on YouTube, and they'll remove the ten minute time limit from your videos. :)

Anyone can sign up for the directors account? I heard that when you start off, Youtube will still only allow you to post 10 minute clips even with a directors account. Vimeo looks fine. I like how there's no time limit, and they give you 500MB storage a week. I don't plan on doing these more than once a week so 500 mb is fine for me. If for some reason problems arise, I'll look into getting a director's account on youtube. I just don't want to split the file.

There's also problems with the sound. I say impressive, by my count, 456,000 times. I would have redone the whole sound but this piece was going on 3 weeks and I just wanted it done. The next one should be better.

Glad everyone enjoyed!

When I applied for it they gave me one, but it maybe different for other people. Its definitely something to look into though.

Haha, I know what you mean by over-using a word. I just got done working on the first half of the second episode of On The Air, and I said "apparently" 500 million times. I need to edit some of that out.

Also, I think the NBA prohibits the use of their games for personal user content or something like that. I believe that's why the guy from X's and O's had to switch from YouTube.

Sweet job man. This project has a lot of potential if you can be consistent with it.

That actually wasn't the NBA's dealing. It was some nonsense with the IOC getting spooked by the fact that he was putting up clips online. The blog post is here

I wouldn't be surprised if the NBA has a similar agenda, but I've seen blog posts around the net that go pretty in depth, though they're mostly team specific. I guess I'll just hope that I'm not important enough for the NBA to care.

Great work.

Loved the Oden piece. The defensive discussion on the Bucks could have been a little longer, but it was really good for a first time.

Can we offer topics for next time or are you doing them yourself?

It really could've, I was just dying to get a first episode out to see what I could and couldn't do, and how difficult it would be to do it.

I'm restricted by time and the mercy of national TV, Knicks, and Nets schedules (I don't have league pass, get home from school and work around 10:00 Monday-Thursday, and have final research papers coming up).

The next episode will focus on Emeka Okafor on the Hornets, and Denver's hyper-aggressive double team traps on the post and on screens.

The next teams I plan on focusing on are the Kings this Wednesday night against the Knicks, Chicago on Thursday against Utah (this may not happen due to Thanksgiving though), and the Wizards on Friday against Miami. I try to wait until during an important moment of the game or after the game to discuss what topic I want to discuss.

I didn't know much about Milwaukee's team going into the Knicks game but was immediately impressed with their defensive spirit so I chose to devote a segment to it. Oden showed a lot of different things, good and bad, against the Spurs so I thought it would be important to devote a segment to it. Other times, LaMarcus Aldridge might show something important, or Luke Ridnour, or Portland's lack of spacing with Andre Miller...it all depends on the game.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't be open to suggestions though. If you guys want me to try and focus on something and it's relevant enough, I'll try to accommodate you. If there's anything you want me to focus on with the Kings, Bulls, and Wizards (particularly the Kings and Wizards since I might not get to do the Bulls), let me know.

You can no longer upload videos longer than ten minutes regardless of what type of account you have. Users who had previously been allowed to upload longer content still retain this ability, so you may occasionally see videos that are longer than ten minutes. You can, however, easily change your account type to Director, Comedian, Musician, or Guru, which offer a variety of other features like the ability to add a custom logo, tour date information, and links to other websites.

The video has to be split up into pieces that are 10 minutes each, unfortunately.
