Arenas charged with felony

WASHINGTON -- Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas has been charged with a felony in connection with last month's locker room confrontation with a teammate.

Arenas, who was suspended indefinitely without pay by NBA commissioner David Stern last week, was charged with carrying a pistol without a license outside a home or business.

The charges were filed in D.C. Superior Court in an "information," a document that generally signals a plea deal.

The Washington Post reported if convicted, Arenas could face a maximum five years in jail and a fine.

Felonies are grounds for contract termination, I believe.

The Players Union is going to fight on Gilbert's behalf, so terminating his contract won't be that easy (although I wish it was).

Also, it is highly doubtful Gil will receive any jail time. He has already pleaded guilty and is currently in the works of a plea bargain. At most he'll probably receive community service and/or probation, as well as a semi-long term suspension.
