  1. Weight has nothing to do with being in shape, there are plenty of over weight people who are in better shape than slim people, it's uncommon because the more you work out more weight you lose but still possible to be heavy and in excellent shape, all about conditioning and how hard you work in preseason, apparently he didn't take it seriously enough..

That is true but Bargs gained his weight cause inactivity during the summer ie inactivity means out of shape . I am not saying he is fat or over weight I am saying he came to camp 15 pounds heavier which was the result of inactivity . His shot is flat which I contribute to fatigue cause he is exhuasted faster .

  2.

Defensively, especially up front, they are going to be pretty bad...but I believe a team with D-Will, Johnson, Wallace, Lopez and Brook can be a solid offensive team, good enough to snag a 4th seed in a weak conference. I can't stick them above the top two defensive teams in that conference (which should be Miami and Indiana) or a team that will launch threes like the Knicks, but we've seen teams run through the regular season with pretty decent records based on their offense. Phoenix used to do it quite a bit, and granted they had Nash and a perfect system for him (one of the better offenses we've seen in a decade), they were able to win 60's without having a defense ranked in the top half of the league.

I won't put money on a 60-win season for the Nets, but 48-49 wins could get them there (Boston's 4th seed and .591 record, from last season, was basically a 49-win season). I wouldn't be shocked if they reached it.

Nets are one injury away from becoming a lottery team again .

Do you think he should be mad at the 33-49 prediction?

The B.S Report with Bill Simmons has got the Raps winning more then the 33 wins which is the Vagas line on the Raps ... Every year before the season starts Bill has a podcast and uses the Vagas lines to have a podcast and he gives his opinion on if the team will win more then the line or less . Often he is negative toward the Raps ie he goes with the fact they will lose more then what Vagas is saying but this year he is positive and he pics the Raps as one of the locks that they will go over .

  4. I don't think you can put being out of shape in quotations considering he never actually says those words.

On the article though I'm glad he's not worried about his struggles. Hopefully he works hard over these next 2 weeks so he can get back in shape before the start of the season.

If he was a traditional big man who just sat in the post and got his points under the basket I would say your right who cares . Wow have we lost all perspective here ? A guy is getting paid 11 million dollars and he can't come into camp in peak condition . You look at any sucessful team and you will see a simple formula which is " when your best players are your hardest workers on and off the court then you will see sucess "

  5. Well, it is public knowledge. Michelle Carter (Vince's mom) talked about this in 2005 and it was published in an article from both ESPN and Sportsnet.

Here is the ESPN article (that references the original article from Sportsnet).

So, yeah, it actually is public knowledge and has been for over 7 years.

Former Toronto Raptors Head Coach Sam Mitchell vehemently denied a story Jalen Rose detailed in his piece for Grantland, whereby the former Raptor player stated Mitchell and Vince Carter got into a physical altercation before the Raptors were set to take on the Portland Trail Blazers in the team's seventh game of the 2004-05 season.

  6. I wouldn't worry too much about getting him back before the season starts. The Raptors have a lot of work to do, anyway, and I doubt him sitting out until November would be an issue in the grand scheme of things. They know what he brings to the table, that he was brought in to do a little bit of everything, so this would be a great time for the Raptors to focus on how the two rooks (Valanciunas and Ross) are going to fit in with a PG that is a willing passer (Calderon). Once you put your finger on that, you'll know what you'll need from Lowry, if you want him to distribute more, or if you're going to need him to score buckets (since he can do both).

Toronto Raptors hire former Los Angeles Lakers athletic coordinator Alex McKechnie – NBA News

On Thursday, the Toronto Raptors officially announced the hiring of the renowned physical trainer Alex McKechnie, who was previously the athletic performance coordinator for the Los Angeles Lakers.

You would think the Raps wouldn't have these type of injuries with a guy like Alex McKechnie in the fold ?

  7. Casey and others have mentioned that Bargnani added 15 pounds over the summer. Normally you like to see big men bulking up, especially ones who struggle with some of the more physical aspects of the game like Bargnani does.

However, is this necessarily a good thing for Bargnani? I think we can all agree that Bargs will never be a good rebounder. Nor is he ever going to be a bruiser down low.

So is it really better for him to continue to bulk up or would it be better if he were to stay around 245-250 pounds and focus more on getting leaner and quicker?

I guess at the end of the day all that really matters is if he can play like he did at the start of the year last year but is bulking up going to make that more likely or would focusing on being quicker and leaner make it more likely?

Aandrea Bargnani well rested and 15 pounds bulked up was the headline .. My question is ?

Is that a nice way of saying didn't train much and gained 15 pounds cause Andrea looked slow with no jump last night

  8. Thoughts on the game?

My take on it was pretty positive. I thought that the shaky start was bound to happen as the team looked rusty and a bit out of sync. However, I was really impressed with the play of Jon Lucas, especially, and how he took over scoring in the time he was allowed to play.

I hope it was just rust but Bargs looked like his feet were in quick sand .

After watching him in game action . I ask myself did he come into came bulked up 15 pounds or 15 pounds overweight ? He looked so rusty and had no jump in his legs .

Just wondering on a 7 foot frame is 15 pounds really that much ? Bargs has a thick body frame ( unlike Bosh ) and will never be asked to pose for Men's Health .

  11. Raptors' Valancuinas injures foot

With training camp still a week away, prized Raptors prospect Jonas Valanciunas has injured his left foot.

While the team said a full update likely wouldn't be coming until Monday, Valanciunas does not appear to be seriously injured, though he was photographed in a walking boot outside the ACC this weekend.

Valanciunas, like most basketball players, has had minor ankle issues in the past and walking boots are known to speed up recovery from minor sprains and strains.

He was not using crutches and was putting weight on the foot, both positive signs.

Valanciunas was to meet with the local media for the first time in nearly 15 months on Monday, but now likely won't do so until Oct. 1st, the team's official media day.

The Raptors start training camp in Halifax on Oct. 2nd.

  12. Since the U.S Open he is 39-2 and one of those losses he forfeit cause of injury ( warm up match prior to Austrailian Open ) . He won his 3rd tournment in 2012 .

When this thread was created Roger Federer was early in the 2012 season and to add to this post it is now 66-7 ... 8 single titles ( another one coming yesterday 6-0 and 7-6 over Novak ) ... 1 grand slam title and one ( Wimbledon ) 1 Silver Medal ... All at this has been done by a player in his 30's .

With the win yesterday he guarantees he will still be number 1 after the U.S Open .

Roger Federer breaks another record this week and he didn't even play . A record that even Roger's biggest fan didn't think he would break when he lost his number 1 ranking 2 years ago ..

Roger Federer has surpassed Pete Sampras to set the record for the most weeks at No. 1 in the ATP rankings.

After winning Wimbledon a week ago, Federer returned to the top for the first time since June 2010 and his 287th week at No. 1, one more than Sampras.

The 17-time Grand Slam champion says he's "extremely proud and honoured to have beaten Pete's record as he was my childhood hero and I have always looked up to him."

The Swiss star will enter the Olympics next week as the world's top-ranked player.

Sampras says "the hardest thing to do in sports is the ability to stay on top. Roger has been able to do so by great play and durability."

  14. 1) Hitting a player with an amnesty clause doesn't necessarily give you that money to offer to others.

    2) However, the Raptors should be well under the cap, if I recall correctly, and signing free agents like Mayo and Brooks shouldn't be a problem for them (cap-wise), even if they keep Calderon.

Regarding Aaron Brooks, though...I doubt he would want to be in Toronto, because he wouldn't be starting over Kyle Lowry. I think he ran off to Sacramento because he has an opportunity to start over Thomas/Jimmer.

I have no idea who Jeff Finger is, so I'm assuming you're talking about the Maple Leafs.

The only problem I see with all of this (regarding the Raptors being cheap) is that they HAVEN'T amnestied Jose Calderon yet, and that they just overpaid for Landry Fields (in hopes to give Steve Nash big bucks).

I think, when it comes to the Raptors, there aren't many players who are rushing to play alongside Bargnani in Toronto.

Tyreke Evans is Kings PG . Can you explain your first point ? It doesn't make sense . You remove Jose's 9 million dollar contract doesn't result in more spending money ? Is that what your trying to tell me .
