At the end of the day, it has nothing to do with the U.S. losing, but rather settling a game 1 on 1 after battling for 120+ minutes 11 on 11. I'd much rather see tired ass players score a goal in O.T. then in PK's. I just think it's a shame games have to end like that.
-
That is dumb as well, and you're comparing decisions made by the IOC to decisions made by smarter people.
-
I'm sorry, but 120 minutes of soccer is in no way, shape, or form, the equivalent of a 3 O.T. hockey game. Soccer players are generally moving around most of the game, but not all of them are sprinting at one time. There's a lot of midfield play where you do not exert nearly the same amount of energy as you would in a hockey game. I think that they should allow for more substitutions, which could certainly help out in a long game. I just think it's a shame (has nothing to do with the U.S. today) that a World Cup game is settled on PK's, which are a one on one with a goalie, when the rest of the 120+ minute game is played 11 on 11. That's what my problem is. It's just one of many weird things soccer does with its rules. So, let me ask you this then. Since you are for PK's, and just said that "It's the equivalent of a 3 OT hockey game", and also proceeded to say " Penalty kicks are exciting and absolutely relevant to decide a game", what if an NHL Stanley Cup game 7 (equivalent of the importance of a World Cup Finals game) went to 4 O.T.'s? At that point, in your own words, the game has surpassed the 3 O.T's in hockey, which are apparently equivalent of an overtime soccer game (which is not true), and you're in support of a soccer game going to PK's after O.T. So, going based on everything you just said, there is no other conclusion to come to besides you being in favor of having the potential of shootouts in the NHL playoffs. You can explain yourself further, but that is the only conclusion that can be made based upon your posts.

He said "a sport" and then put the NFL in parentheses, and said particularly the NFL. All I'm saying is that a game that is played 11 on 11 should not be decided in a 1 on 1 gimmick.
-
You made very little sense here. Hockey players have 45+ second shifts skating hard and endure physical contact. Soccer players, although on the field for a longer period of play, do not exert the same amount of energy that a hockey player will throughout a game. They aren't running the entire game. There's periods of the game where the ball is at one end, and you are just walking around. That is just as much of a "resting period" as you get in hockey. The most ridiculous part of what you said was that sudden death overtime is as much bull-shit as penalty kicks? How is that? You play 11 on 11 the entire game, and now you're going to decide the game 1 on 1? That makes no sense at all, and is completely foolish. How about we settle NFL playoff overtime games with a Field Goal contest? It's the same concept. It's ridiculous to decide a hard fought game played 11 on 11 by going to a gimmick with a 1 on 1 PK with a goalie. And, talking about endurance, hockey players rank at the top of the list for Vo2 test.
-
How would you feel if the Bruins beat the Canucks in a shootout in overtime in game 7? Let's decide a very meaningful game in a situation that barely happens during regular game play. At that point, it's not even soccer. Don't give me the endurance garbage either because that won't fly.
-
They did, but they blew multiple leads, and you just can't do that. The worst part is that the game ended in a gimmick that should never decide a World Cup game.
-
Congratulations to Japan. For a country that has suffered so much the past year, good for them. You can't blow multiple leads, and then score just once in the biggest gimmick in sports.
-
Damn, I was just thinking about how this game might not actually go to O.T.....knock on wood.
-
I'm not bitching about anything. I'm saying there was a call that could have greatly changed the outcome of the game. That is all......
-
Well, it''s 1-0 U.S., but Japan got screwed to the max on the offside call.
-
Also, my favorite part of this thread is that the two times Youkilis was hit in the Tigers series, he was hit in the side/back both times, NOT on the hands.
-
That's fine, but I still don't know why you had to bump it. I couldn't find his comment about it either, but I'm 100% he made a comment about it. I may have actually been the season before, and otr was hacked then, but I really thought I made the comment last year.
-
I'll concede because I never knew there was an actual definition for diving that involved the use of the hand. However, I still think it's a dumb word to describe someone leaning over the plate. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/dive
-
I didn't see this coming or anything. You're ten times worse than iwill. At least he has an argument when he discusses a topic, and supports his argument. You just spew absolute nonsense. I bumped the other thread because I actually was thinking of it the other day after watching Patriots highlights last season, but wasn't going to bump the thread, but he bumped a thread two years old for little to no reason. Make a sig be on the November 6, 2011 game if you're so cocky.
-
Diving is still the wrong terminology no matter how you slice it. I get your point, but leaning in, or standing more over the plate (which is what I'm assuming you are saying) does not mean diving.
-
After thinking of this game, I can't wait for the Giants and Eagles games this year. It's going to be wonderful to see these two teams battle it out, with the Eagles hopefully ripping the Giants apart.
-
You're using two completely different words, and saying they are the same. Leaning over the plate and "diving" (the way you were trying to use it) are not the same thing.show It's not my fault you used the incorrect word. Can you me multiple videos of him leaning over the plate trying to get hit. You can say Ortiz is a juicer, Paps is a bitch, and Epstein is overrated, and I would not disagree, but, saying Kevin Youkilis leans in to pitches trying to get hit is not accurate. Yes, I know where he ranks on the lists yearly, but that doesn't have to do with him TRYING to get hit.
-
I'm not surprised at all you bumped this. How do you dive in baseball? That doesn't happen in baseball. I'm sorry Joba is a fat ass that can't control his anger and likes to throw at him. You can say I'm bringing up Joba for no reason, but he's thrown a Youkilis a ton, and you're just necroing this thread for little reason. I'm sure it may be because he was hit yesterday, but still, why the hell are you bumping this thread. Also, please post multiple videos of Youkilis diving as well.

Honestly, I think the NL Central is not that strong of a division, but, that prediction was before Matt Holiday was added, and other acquisitions. It was in a thread about surprise teams.
-
Yes, I knew you were probably going to quote that. That was the second post, after I made it clear that I didn't trust the 49er's. Also, Fish, you started to derail the thread. There was a picture of the standings, and I commented how I wasn't surprised, yet that somehow involves the 49er's. You really are clueless.
-
You know every time you post this you're wrong? Out of every prediction I made in that thread, the 49er's one was the one I was least confident with, gave a range for my prediction. This was my first post regarding them in the thread. http://www.otrbasketball.com/forums/topic/15710-predict-your-teams-w-l/page__view__findpost__p__176596 And, I thought the Cowboys were going to be awesome? Or, my favorite one by most of you....the Bengals. . How'd the Bengals season turn out. Anyways, you tried to take this thread off track. Getting back on topic, I'm just right about pretty much everything, and I'll find the post I was talking about regarding the Pirates.

Also, she was awarded $20 million because the parole department messed up more than you can imagine. This moron is a previously convicted sexual predator, and there's kids play stuff in the back yard, and kids in the house sometimes, yet they don't ask questions or anything. Talk about dropping the ball.

This story honestly pisses me off...a lot. This guy better be in solitary confinement or he's going to get the crap kicked out of him in prison.
-
I'm glad it's back . I only changed it because the Bruins won the Stanley Cup. I felt really dirty with that name.
