that is how it works in the US(the tuner works as an STB). most TVs in the US don't require an STB unless you are paying for a more premium service as US TVs are required by law to have an ATSC tuner(used to just need an NTSC tuner). All others cannot be sold as TVs and must be sold as monitors. Do you get any free HD channels with it?

thats a VGA cable. you won't need to do anything with that. im not sure how Australian television broadcasting works. it might be as simple as taking a coaxial from the STB to the tuner card. the VGA cable will just go from graphics card to monitor or TV like it currently is. WMC will scan for channels. Since you're using a STB though, that is probably decoding the channels already. You might be able to bypass STB all together and go straight to the tuner card.
