  1. Well, it's easy to say that as a fan of a big market east coast team. They are broke and out of contention, so to them the money is absolutely more valuable than the compensation pick. Plus, I am sure that there are many people in that organization who will be thrilled when the Manny circus leaves town.
  2. They are basically out of contention (even though they have been playing a little bit better in the last week or so, they have been doing it without him in the lineup), so they figured they'd unload him while they could and get some return for him. In this case, that return will most likely just be some financial relief, which is a pretty big deal to the Dodgers considering the situation with the McCourts. Manny is nowhere close to the hitter he used to be, but he can still be an asset to a team like the White Sox. Obviously we don't know for sure what the Dodgers will be getting back, but just based on what we do know it sounds like a solid deal for both sides.
  3. Baseball is a funny game. Swept at home by a bad team, go on the road and sweep the team with the best record in the league. Go figure.
  4. *Sigh*...how many [expletive]ty closers can one team possibly take advantage of in one season...
  5. I couldn't do one of these for the Eagles even if I tried. I really have no idea what to expect from them this year.
  6. Nothing personal Cobb, but I hope you see the home team get wrecked. Oh hey, Marlins already have 3 runs before Derek Lowe records an out. And Josh Johnson is on the hill.
  7. One of the weirder things I have seen this year. Dallas Braden threw a complete game shutout, with just 4 hits, 1 strikeout and no walks, but he still had 120 pitches. Very odd. Must have been a bunch of foul balls.
  8. Ryan Kalish made a pretty ridiculous catch earlier.

Order way in advance if you want to avoid any chance of ridiculous fees.
  10. Many minor league parks have "greased guns". Lets see him do that in a Major League park.

There will still be a fee, but probably not as high.

Definitely StubHub, although they will get you big time with shipping/processing fees.
  13. [expletive] this season. I have now seen it all.
  14. Also...in the playoffs, it does not really matter how good your pitching staff is as a whole, but in a lot of cases, just how good your starting rotation is 1-3 and your 8th and 9th inning guys. So, I think that the Padres/Reds would have problems with the Giants, Braves, Cardinals, or Phillies, especially in a short series. The Padres have the best pitching staff overall from top to bottom, 1-13, but that does not necessarily mean much in the postseason. But I'd still like their chances more than the other teams listed in the original post. But yes, as Fish said, it depends on who is hot.
  15. Nothing would surprise me, really. I think the Padres would surprise me least of that group because of their pitching.
  16. Good Lord, the Chiefs are awful.
  17. The one group of people I do not feel sorry for are Nationals "fans". Obviously, this is not including the hardcore fans who have been supporting them and waiting for them to be good since the time they moved to DC. This must be devastating for them. I am talking about the people who don't bother to show up to the park the 4 days of the week Stras is not pitching. To hell with them.
  18. Of course, right when Danys Baez starts pitching reasonably well for the first time all year, he hits the DL with back spasms.
  19. Lol how can you say he is a bust? He is 22 years old with arguably the most raw talent of any pitcher in baseball history. There are plenty of examples of guys who have come back strong from TJ surgery, including Josh Johnson and Chris Carpenter. I do think he needs to slightly alter his delivery, however. Also, the potential is unfortunately there for him to be Mark Prior 2.0, but everybody saw exactly how Dusty Baker and the Cubs ruined him, and with as much as the Nationals have invested in Strasburg, I think they probably learned from the Prior incident and will do as much as it takes to avoid that here. This is is pretty [expletive]ty news for baseball, though, since it will be without one of it's biggest stars for a full season.
  20. For me, MLB>NHL>NFL>College Football>College Basketball>NASCAR>NBA>whatever else.
  21. I know they do this [expletive] every year, and every year (to this point) they have recovered, but the [expletive]ing Houston Astros should not be coming here in the end of August and sweeping a 4 game series.
  22. They do this a lot. Out of the 5 "main guys" in this lineup, 2 are just off the DL and still searching for their swing, one can't hit for [expletive] with runners on base, one is in a season-long slump, and well, Placido Polanco is really good but he is not the kind of hitter who can carry a team by himself. I think strikeouts are overrated (from a hitting standpoint), but when you have a whole lineup of guys who strike out a ton (with the exceptions being Carlos Ruiz and Placido Polanco), these slumps will happen. It is infuriating, but they do it several times every year.
  23. Strike out prone, streaky offenses FTW!!! [expletive]. Only two positives from tonight. Roy Halladay was really, really good as usual. Only made 3 bad pitches by my count, but with the way this offense is going, that was more than enough for the Astros to win. Also, the crowd gave Scott Barry hell. Loudest booing I have heard since Scott Rolen's first game back. But [expletive]. I know the first two games were heavily influenced by poor officiating, but the Phillies cannot be losing 3 straight games at home in August to the [expletive]ing Astros.
  24. Also, I am going to the game tonight. Can't wait to see Scott Barry get introduced.
