Jeter leads off with a single for 2994. He has the rest of today and three more games if he wants to get 3000 at home.

I forgot to mention another key connection between the two: how much attention they drew from the media. Dave Winfield was just talking to ESPN Radio about the same comparison. Sent from my HTC on the Now Network from Sprint.

Alex Rodriguez, specifically referring to the Alex of 2005-2007. A-Rod's course of the season ran very similarly to how LeBron's did in his two Finals years. Alex would put up his usual regular numbers that would hover near the league's best. He won two MVP's in this period of time. As soon as the postseason hit, however, the numbers went crashing. He went absent with runners in scoring position. LeBron's struggles have started come Finals time. The sample size isn't as big as A-Rod's, but it's still worth observing. The odd part is, even in 2007, where Alex had the best season of his career and came through in a number of big moments (and the moments come often in New York), the playoffs were something completely different. As for LeBron, we were constantly waiting for that indication that he was going to take over and light it up, because we've seen it happen multiple times before. Worth noting, A-Rod had a renaissance playoff year in 2009. The observation may be trivial to some of you, but it caught my interest.

Bron with a chance to take advantage of Barea guarding him but gets called for the charge. -
Great to see Whelan bounce back. Strikeout, groundout, walk, popout.

Beltre breaks up the no-no to start the eighth.

Just as I say that, Luke Hughes commits an error. Andy Pettitte had a perfect game into the seventh in 2009 before Jerry Hairston committed an error.

Liriano perfecto through 6 1/3 with 67 pitches.

We had quite a few decisions to make pre-Colon injury. Now that Colon is injured, we may be addressing two rotation spots along with the 'pen. Hector Noesi got called up today to replace the injured Amauri Sanit. He still has a shot at the starting rotation, but Kevin Davidoff said that the top three choices are Phelps, Warren, and Mitchell. Warren may need a little more AAA experience. Phelps is the most likely replacement. Hopefully, Whelan bounces back from the rocky outing Friday. George Kontos also deserves a shot at long relief. Also, Russ is expected to return soon, but soon could still mean another four or five days. Cervelli is a nice option as a second string C, but I think he's thrown three balls into CF in the last week trying to gun down runners. Maybe now is the time to give Montero a shot.

Strained left hamstring for Colon, got injured running to cover first base. 15-day DL. Anthony Rizzo hit his first big-league HR in his eighth plate appearance and fourth AB.

Interesting road trip. Coming in, it was considered the Yanks' toughest road trip up to this point in the season, and many of us would've been content with a 4-5. We lose the first two games, but then we win the next four. And now we have a shot at capping it off at 6-3.

I went to a wedding yesterday in Flushing Meadows. It crossed my mind that we may be in the area of Citi Field, but I never thought I'd look out the ballroom window and see this. http://oi53.tinypic.com/2weyq2o.jpg

LBP and Wipeout HD are must-gets for those of you that don't have them. Killzone Liberation for PSP was also great. I think I'll go for Infamous and Ratchet & Clank, and LBP PSP and ModNation. -
