Celtics-Cavs Clincher Earned Near-Record Ratings

Boston's series-clinching victory over the Cavaliers in Game 6 of their semifinal series on Thursday night was the second-most watched basketball game ever aired on ESPN.

 

The broadcast drew a 6.6 rating on the cable network and averaged 6,552,000 households and 8,983,000 viewers.

 

Only Game 4 of last year's Western Conference finals between the Lakers and Nuggets did better on ESPN.

Whooaa I didn't know last year's WCF Game 4 was the most watch bball game EVER on ESPN :o Interesting.

Kobe and Melo got more ratings than Lebron and Pierce/KG/Allen?

 

Imagine how much higher ratings would be if it was Kobe/Lebron.. which seems like it will never happen lol.

What's more surprising is this Game 6 should be bigger considering:

- It's the only NBA playoff game around with all other teams are in Conference Finals waiting... bball fans only have this game to watch

- It's the game the underdog Celtics are suddenly favored to beat the best team in the NBA

- If Celtics beat Cavs, it's the drama of possibility of LeBron's final game as a Cav, how would he respond, how would he play, etc... this should be the biggest reason... I actually watched it just to watch LeBron lol

 

 

And Nuggets-Lakers Game 4 drew more than this game was surprising... even if it was WCF.
