Thunder Acquires Etan Thomas

Recommended Posts

The Oklahoma City Thunder have acquired veteran center Etan Thomas, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti. In addition to Thomas, Oklahoma City receives Minnesota’s 2010 second round draft pick and a conditional 2010 second round draft pick in exchange for guards Chucky Atkins and Damien Wilkins. “We are pleased to welcome Etan Thomas to the Thunder family,” said Presti. “Etan adds experience and depth to our front court as well as a defensive mentality and competitiveness that we value.”

He will take playing time away from young guys like Ibaka that might have played this year, but he gives them more time to learn, and lets OKC win a few more games. The picks might also be the focal point of the trade for OKC, maybe they can be used along with OKC's second rounder to gain an extra first round pick next year.

So basically the trade was

OKC gets :

Etan Thomas

Two 2nd rounders

Minnesota gets :

Chucky Atkins

Damien Wilkins

Yeah, one of the picks is conditional but OKC basically gave up none of their future plans, and little of the plans for this year.

i think its a very solid trade just in case white and/or Ibaka dont turn out like they did in the SL, we have a so-so guy who can bring some toughness. also his in his last year so clears up some cap and Damien Wilkins is finally gone and maybe a sign that colison is out?
