Is Vince Carter HOF bound?

Recommended Posts

Yeah it will be considered, but there's no way it trumps the fact that he has nothing on his resume except a few good scoring seasons. You just can't make it to the hall with the career he's had, no way.

All he had was a few good scoring seasons? He had 10 straight seasons with at least 20PPG (6 of them with at least 24PPG), and 8 of those seasons he averaged both 4+ rebounds and 4+ assists. That's impressive statistically. Mix in the fact he's the greatest dunker in NBA history, and what he did for the league in terms of drawing fans' interest, and I'd say he has a good enough resume for the HoF.

You're acting as if he broke down barriers or established a new age in dunking...everything he did was a mixture of things Nique, Dr J, and MJ had done in previous years, we didn't see anything new. He did nothing in the playoffs, he didn't win anything, he didn't get any awards outside of the ROY (which doesn't mean much towards your legacy), nor did he receive any first team honors. And let's not act as if he didn't have help with gaining fans interest, Shaq and Duncan were in their primes, and Kobe was reaching stardom as well as Tmac.

As a player, there's just no way he should get in...he doesn't have the resume plain and simple.

Carter's lack of heart and awful basketball instincts should keep him far away from anything close to a Hall-of-Fame. Has anybody's stats rang as hollow as Carter's? The guy put up some numbers playing during the worst stretch a conference has had perhaps ever. People tend to forget how seriously awful the Eastern Conference was during Carter's hayday. And he couldn't accomplish jack squat in the postseason against average competition.

The only Halls of Fame Carter belongs in are the Hall of Dunking and the Hall of Being really goddamn nice (which in the grand scheme of things may be more important then any basketball accomplishments. For all of Carter's foibles, he's always had a smile on his face and tries to genuinely help others, especially his opponents---helping them up off the floor, even sometimes during plays, etc).

Duncan and 'gaining fan interest' should never, ever be used in the same sentence.

And no, VC wasn't alone, but he was by far the biggest draw in the NBA for a few years, having the most hype of any player since MJ. Also, as for his resume, he was screwed out of a few All-NBA teams because of the media's strong dislike for him. He had three 25/6/4 seasons in a row with NJ, with the team getting to the playoff each season, yet he never even got All-NBA 3rd team...that's a joke, especially his first season with NJ where he averaged 28/6/5 on a TS% of 56%, while leading that broken down team to the playoffs.

People still appreciated the fact that he was consistently winning and was edging closer to becoming the greatest PF ever.

It doesn't matter if he got screwed, the point is, he didn't win those all NBA 1st team honors. And it seems like you have forgotten about Grant Hill who was averaging LeBron-esque numbers for 5 straight years. He was the next MJ before VC, Kobe, or Tmac. Grant Hill had the potential to be one of the best SF in history. He could do it all and as everyone remembers was one of the most dominant player in the league for the few years he was hundred percent. His continued ankle injuries destroyed millions of true fans to see one of the most complete SF ever.
