Recommended Posts

May 31 was the deadline for Rubio to reach an agreement, thought negotiations went dead after a while but then I saw this. Anyways its great to hear that he's finally coming to the NBA.

I'm not going to get into the Jennings-Rubio debate, but I think Rubio is going to make more of a difference than a lot of people will ever see on paper. What has been the T-Wolves' #1 struggles over the last few years? They have a great front court, fairly good wing players, but no point guard to run the show. So what if Rubio doesn't come in and score the ball incredibly well? He will get his assists, that is a fact. Look at those numbers, and turn that Euroleague minus into a plus for him. Who is he passing the ball to for shots? NBA-caliber players? No, they're guys who aren't good enough to play in the best league, so they're not making their shots. I've watched some of his games, and one in particular he had 4 assists, but should have had about 11. The dude is going to come in, and finally be a guy who runs the offense for Minnesota. They haven't had that in a long time, and that's what he is going to come in and do. Huge news for Minnesota, and expect a much better year for them next year.

IMO he will be a solid play maker for the team, but that biggest question I have is will he be a big enough factor to stay on the floor and contribute? He is a bit older now but still very small when compared to quite a few point guards in the league today, I think his defensive weakness is going to keep him on the bench during crunch time for at least a few years.

If there's something remarkable about Rubio it's going to be his defense, which is pretty much his only consistent aspect.

He's had a very, VERY irregular season, so he's probably coming over to see if a change of scenery helps him. The guy still can't shoot at all, and he's going to play for Spain this summer so I don't think he'll be working on his shot big time.

I think he's got the potential to be a good point guard, but I really think it will take him a while to adapt.

Its official. Press conference is Tuesday.

Ricky Rubio has spoken today in Barcelona -- yes, he announced he's headed to Minnesota and the NBA -- and the Timberwolves, after a two-year wait, will introduce him officially Tuesday, presumably at Target Center.

And, hey, you can buy season tickets for next season now for $9 for a pair. That's $387 for the season.

He wears No. 9, get it?

(No, it's not as KFAN's Dan Barreiro tweeted back to me this morning a promotion linked to Rubio's three-point shooting percentage. That'd be a $22 ticket special.)

Here's some of what Rubio had to say at a packed news conference where he said adios to his Regal Barcelona team and his European career that started at age 14.

"I have finally decided to start the journey...It is my dream and I want to fulfill it. After thinking about it a lot, the time has arrived."

"I think all that I have won here gives me strength to go."

"Individually, I could have done things better, but it is a team sport and we had success. I am going because I feel prepared," Rubio said. "I want to play against the best players in the world."

"It will mean a change of mentality. Perhaps we won't be fighting for the title, but we will have other goals. I am willing to do whatever the team needs to win as many games as possible."

The Wolves released a statement at 6 this morning announcing Rubio's signing to a mutli-year contract. David Kahn said in it, "This is a day our organization and our fans have been eagerly awaiting from the moment we drafted him and I couldn't be more pleased to welcome Ricky to Minnesota."

Kahn will speak to reporters this morning after pre-draft workouts at Target Center.
