A SG that can't shoot, excuse me if I'm not as excited as you are.

Ignored all of my points on the players you'd rather we picked and instead pointed out a flaw in the guy we took.. hmm.

Shot 47% on non-3 pointers last year.. just need to either work on his range, shot selection, or both. If you wanted a flawless player at #17, you were dreaming haha. He fills multiple immediate needs and will mesh will with our roster. Too much QQ.

I didn't ignore shit, 1 defensive player (who may or may not be as good as they say) isn't going to improve anything on this team, especially from a role playing combo guard. Motiejunas could be the best player in this draft.

BTW, Landry had better scoring number in both 3's and 2's in college, we've seen what type of scorer he is in the NBA, what make you believe Shumpert deserves to start over Landry?

What you ignored was my points as to why Faried/Singleton weren't fits.

1 defensive player doesn't make a difference? In the running for most ignorant thing you've ever said

Motiejunas might be a good scorer, but did we need a scoring 5 (at best the 4th option) who plays absolutely no defense?

Landry had better scoring numbers but lacks the translation athleticism to bring that scoring ability to the NBA. Shump's athleticism tells me his will improve, if he's focused and takes direction/coaching.

Tell me someone like Shump chasing Ray Allen or defending Rondo in the first round wouldn't have made a difference. He's a needed commodity on this team. Just don't hop on the bandwagon when he is a beast for us :)

I'm not off or on any bandwagon, and I like him, I just think it is a bad pick. You made my point for me, RAY ALLEN OR RAJON RONDO, he can't defend both. A defense is only as good as it's weakest player, and we have many weak players on defense. Did Jared Jeffries change the defensive complexion of this team one bit last year? One player does not change a defense, it is a team thing. Plus as long as D'antoni is running the team we are never going to play good defense because he just doesn't care about it.

If you shut down one or another of them, that's taking away from their offense and their options.

You can't completely ignore adding defensive players just because you need more than one guy. Shumpert immediately makes us a better defensive team, and does it at a position we needed help at.

We are a better defensive team today with Iman Shumpert, and that's something we needed to address.

Until D'antoni is gone I just don't see the reasoning behind adding defensive players. BTW we drafted Toney Douglas and he was supposed to be a great defender, got destroyed by Rondo last year. I'd calm down before we start projecting him to be able to stop all star caliber players.

Douglas isn't a good enough athlete to keep up with Rondo. I also don't think anyone has labeled him a "great" defender.

Shump will guard one of their big players, and will (as far as anyone can see) do it better than Billups/Douglas/whoever. Disagree?

You say there's no point in drafting defense, but said we should have taken Faried/Singleton.

Bottom line is that the team needed defense at the 2 guard position, and that's what we drafted. I am honestly not sure how anyone can disagree with that. Will he "shut down" Rondo or Allen? Maybe, maybe not.. Can't say until we see him play. But is he more capable than the guys we have on the roster? Absolutely yes.

That was JYD not me, I didn't want Singleton, sure as hell didn't wat Faried unless you see STAT as a C, which I don't. I don't much about Shump I won't lie, and he would be a valuable player on a team that has a realistic gameplan. Hell Chris Paul - Shumpert - Carmelo - Stoudemire - Defensive C, that's one hell of a starting line up. However, I don't like the pick for the team we have now, at all. Yes Shumpert should play good D but I think it will be lost because 4 of the 5 other players on our team will be getting torched and if he can't hit an open 3 then...Motiejunas could be the best player in this draft, would have loved to have him on this team.

Billups - Fields - Anthony - Stoudemire - Motiejunas

BTW how far has Landry Fields fallen in our minds to call this a good pick? Like a rookie player has never developed? Just don't like the pick, I'll stick with my D.

Situational Statistics: This Year's Point Guard Crop

May 8, 2009

Toney Douglas, was one of the most efficient players on our list, using over 20 possessions per game (20.7). His overall PPP of 1.04 was the second best of all players, while his PPP as a finisher of 1.22 was sixth best. As a jump shooter, he scored 1.41 PPP on unguarded catch and shoot attempts, and 1 PPP on pull ups. A gifted off the ball player who scores 1.23 PPP (5th) shooting off of screens and 1.14 PPP in spot up situations, Douglas is only an average shot creator (.85 Isolation PPP), but he doesn’t turn the ball over in the half court almost at all (9.7%, 2nd), has experience running the pick and roll (5.3 Pos/G, 2nd), is an excellent defender, and seems like an ideal complement to a taller ball-handling guard. His stock has risen in recent months, and will be interesting to how his limitations as a distributor (he ranks dead last in amongst all passing metrics amongst draft-eligible PGs) factor in to where he’s selected on draft day.

On the defensive end of the floor, Douglas has a stellar reputation around the NCAA—being named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year last week. He displays very good lateral quickness, which combined with his strength and wingspan, should make his transition to the next level easier. He has an aggressive mentality on the defensive end, constantly pressuring the ball, and proving to be one of the most relentless defenders in college basketball. This aggressive style of play also results in him getting beaten off of the dribble, though in fairness, it is very effective in Florida State's team defensive scheme considering the shot-blockers he has playing behind him.

Toney Douglas

STRENGTHS:

- Ability to get to free throw line

- Ball-handling skills

- Lateral quickness

- Man to man defense

- Outstanding defender

- Pressure defense

- Aggressiveness

- Leadership skills

- Work ethic

- Athleticism

- Strength

- Wingspan

- 3-point range

- Ability to catch and shoot

- Ability to come off screens

- Pull-up jumper

I thought you were talking about the veteran Toney Douglas, who we've seen as a good-but-not-great defender. His assessment coming out of school has no bearing now that he's a vet with a track record.

Motie would have made us a worse team, especially if he's starting at the 5. That's like replacing whatever defensive specialist C we played last year with Bargnani. Add a few points from a 4th option and allow the opponents to score at will - even more so than last year.

I said it before.. When it plays out and you love him, I don't wanna hear it :)

Think I've said all I can on this, love you though hun.. We're diehard

Donut Motie is God.

As a defensive specialist off the bench I like Shumpert but I can't see him being anything more than that. Doesn't have a shot or the point guard skills to remain on the floor for long.

He's never been asked to run the point as a traditional point guard.. I think I'm going to wait and see how he can handle a halfcourt offense. The shot doesn't worry me, because it's something you can work on and his slashing skills are just fine. On the floor with Billups, Melo, and Amar'e, there won't be many shots for him anyway.
