Sixers Re-Sign Royal Ivey

Recommended Posts

After a comment on twitter led to some confusion about Royal Ivey returning to Philadelphia over the weekend, it looks as though Ivey will be returning to the team after all.

The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that Ivey and the Sixers have agreed to a one year contract, although a contract probably will not be executed until at least the end of the week.

Ivey created a weekend buzz when he sent out a Twitter message saying, "Going back to Philly!'' That could have been, in part, because he is completing a summer class at Texas.

The deal is believed to be worth slightly more than the league minimum.

Man I liked Ivey. He was pretty solid on the defensive end and could knock down the open three. He isn't going to make or break a season, but he's a nice guy to have off the bench in certain situations. I was kind of hoping Holiday would just take his minutes though since the guy is supposedly a lock-down defender.

Sixers Re-Sign Royal Ivey

Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Ed Stefanski announced that the team has re-signed free agent guard Royal Ivey. On June 15, Ivey declined the player option on his contract for the 2009-10 season, making him an unrestricted free agent. “We are fortunate to be able to bring back Royal Ivey, an experienced guard with good size who is familiar with our team and core philosophies,” Stefanski said. “Prior to making a decision on signing an additional guard, Coach Jordan expressed his interest in acquiring a player who puts the team first and plays aggressive defense, both qualities embodied by Royal."
