Francona will ask the Red Sox to decline his option years, reports Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times. A Major League source tells Van Schouwen that Francona "has had his fill of the whole thing" in Boston and wishes to leave.

Sheesh. Always thought Tito was a cool guy, and a good manager.

This is where the recent success of Boston sports and the entitlement of many Boston sports fans comes into play. Every since the Patriots won their first Super Bowl, anything less than a championship for any of the Boston sports teams is deemed a complete failure. Granted, the objective is to win a championship, losing isn't always a complete and utter failure like some Boston fans make it seem. He helped lead the Red Sox to two World Series championships, and suffered from the team having injuries to the pitching staff this year. It's not his fault somebody likes to give J.D. Drew a massive contract. It's not his fault that Carl Crawford absolutely sucked this season. Francona should share some of the blame, but at the end of the day, the onus falls on the players.

This is dumb, dumb, dumb. Reading the Patriots message board recently, there are people questioning Belichick and his football intelligence lately. It's becoming absolutely absurd and unbearable at times with people around here. I want to see Boston teams win as much as any other Boston sports fan, but I'm not going to put the blame all on one guy.

This would be like firing Belichick after the Patriots lost to the Giants, or firing Claude Julien after the Bruins blew a 3-0 series lead against the Flyers two years ago. Oh, and the next season, after that historic collapse (sound familiar Red Sox?) they won the Stanley Cup, and are in a great position this year.

Again, I love Boston sports teams, but many Boston sports fans always have to blame someone, and it's usually one scapegoat. This time it's Francona, which is absolutely dumb. It was a total organizational collapse, and most of the blame should fall on the players and management.

They didn't win a World Series for nearly a century, and win two in the past ten years with the same manager, and are now ready to let him go........
