Clippers Pull Off Historic Comeback, STEAL GAME 1

Game #1: LAC @ MEM 99-98 // (LAC Lead Series 1-0)

http://www.otrbasketball.com/forums/public/style_images/clean/team_reps/lac.png @ http://www.otrbasketball.com/forums/public/style_images/clean/team_reps/mem.png

Blake Griffin made his playoff debut and after overcoming a tough start, he along with reserves Kenyon Martin, Nick Young, and Reggie Evans helped stage one of the most dramatic comebacks in league history!!! The Clippers put together a 28-3 run over the final 9:13 to stun the Memphis Grizzlies and steal home-court advantage in Game 1 of the Western Conf. First Round!!

It was so hard to quantify that after Blake Griffin snagged his seventh and final rebound as the buzzer sounded he said he didn’t know what to do.

“I just walked around and hugged like three people,” he said after the game.

The Clippers’ 99-98 come-from-behind victory over the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 1 of their opening round series Sunday was stunning, baffling, and historic. Griffin’s reaction explained it all. Griffin, who scored 17 points on 7-for-15 shooting, snared the rebound, dribbled once before the buzzer sounded, and high-stepped back to his teammates who flooded the court.

Prior to Saturday afternoon’s 87-86 victory in Game 3, Blake Griffin challenged himself more than anyone to match the Grizzlies’ physical play.

Aside from the first half of Game 1, when he scored just two points in 14 minutes, Griffin had played well in the first two games. With averages of 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds, his numbers weren’t too far off what he’d done in the regular season. Still, there was a sense he could do more.

And while his statistics from Game 3 (17 points and four rebounds) don’t show it, he set the tone in terms of making himself a presence on both ends of the floor.

“Our plan was to be aggressive from the beginning of the game. We ended up doing a good job of that early, let our guard down here and there, but overall ended up doing a good job of being the more aggressive team.” Griffin said.

According to Rudy Gay, who led the Grizzlies with 24 points Saturday, Griffin and his teammates beat Memphis at their own game:

“Well we’re supposed to be the physical team,” Gay said after the game. “They took that away from us today. They pushed us. They did all the things that we usually do to teams.”
