"He was given a defense with Richard Seymour, willie mcginest, Ty Law, Teddy bruschi, and others, you dont have to be a defensive genius to have that work. He basically flipped a coin between Tom Brady and Tim Rattay and lucked out. His last few drafts have been terrible as well, he picked up running backs in the 2nd and 3rd who did nothing this year instead of filling needs in the secondary and getting a pass rusher"

" Patriots playoff record since Spygate.

07: They beat a pathetic Jags team in the first round, beat the Chargers because of an injured LdT, and lose to the Giants in the SB. Brady who "never has two bad games in a row", actually had 2 bad games in a row in the championship and SB

08: Brady's knee blown out, no playoffs.

09: They got blown out by the Ravens at home in the 1st round.

10: Another embarrassing loss to the Jets at home in the first round

11: Meet the biggest joke of a playoff team in NFL history, the Broncos. Easy win. This probably gives the team the confidence that they can actually win playoff games again, their first since the SB loss. Then they finally play a decent team in the Ravens and get their first legit win since 07.

Pretty sad for a team that had won 3 SB in 4 years, GOAT offense in 07, GOAT QB, top 10 defense, and GOAT HC as we were being told."

Bottom line, he's made the super bowl five times with the Patriots, and has managed to keep his team relevant even with questionable defense at times, such as this year. Heck, the Patriots finished 11-5 with Matt Cassel after all hope seemed to be lost with Brady's early injury.

By beating the Ravens in the playoffs, they earned some respect back from that loss a few years ago. Just because last five years looked bad in comparison to the 3 straight SB wins, you can't say he's overrated.

No, definitely not. The team he had this year isn't even any good. Certainly you have Brady, but what he did to resurrect that defense in the middle of the season was a great coaching job. To have that bad of a D and go 13-3 and be a few plays away from winning the Super Bowl actually shows how good he is as a coach. And if Welker holds on to that pass, let's be honest, we are sitting here with a DaBearsFan thread about is bill belichick the greatest of all time?

No, but I think it's taken a slight hit, but he can erase the damage over the next few years. You don't make the Super Bowl five times on accident (*waits for cheating comments*).

The reason the defense wasn't better is not just because of his coaching, but the actual personnel.

You have to separate his GM'ing abilities and his coaching abilities. If you want to blame him for personnel decisions and believe it cost the Patriots the Super Bowl, that's fine, but don't confuse that with his coaching abilities.

Because he's is so heavily scrutinized on such a big stage its easy to decipher his gameplan; though like Cleveland said, "he's made the super bowl five times with the Patriots, and has managed to keep his team relevant even with questionable defense at times"
