Coaches talk about how there’s always a slight moment of panic every time the phone rings. They like to be able to prepare for every circumstance and every situation, but when a top player has a moment of oops, all the hopes and dreams for the season quickly change.

It’s a reality of life in college football that every offseason will be littered with stories of star players getting in trouble with the law, and more and more in a world of camera phones, social networking and Penn State, no one is able to get away with anything and coaches aren’t able to sweep problems under the rug like they could a few decades ago.

Even with all the instant access to information in today’s day and age, coaches are always going to be as tight-lipped as possible when it comes to suspending players, especially top ones, to leave the door open in case they might return. Hence the always-nebulous "Violation Of Team Rules" as an explanation for why a player isn’t going to be on the field against Cupcake U. to start the season.

What does it mean when a player violates team rules? Maybe the guy was caught smoking something interesting, maybe he's about to flunk out of Intro To Basket Weaving, maybe he's going diva in practices and needs to be taught a lesson, or maybe he was arrested after drinking/driving/dating or all of the above.

Speaking of Da'Rick Rogers, he transferred to Tennessee Tech today. What a nightmare he's been for Tennessee. Still can't believe the dude blew what seemed like his 100th chance at Tennessee, especially considering he could've been a first round pick next year.

Will be interesting to see how he does on September 15th when they head to Eugene and face the Ducks.
