So whats up with Kendall Marshall?

My guess would be he is struggling to adjust to the athleticism of the NBA.

Nobody questioned his passing ability or whether he would be able to run an offense or not, but a lot of people are forgetting that there were some serious questions about whether he was actually a legitimate NBA prospect or not.

He is pretty unathletic and to compound that issue, he isn't very long either. This hurts him a lot on the defensive end of the floor as even in college he struggled containing his man, but luckily for him he had two good defensive bigs in Zeller and Henson covering for him so it wasn't as much of an issue. Gortat can do some of those things, but not nearly as well as having two very good defensive bigs back there. Also the fact that there is no defensive 3 second in college makes the paint a lot more congested so blow bys aren't usually as much of a big deal.

Then on offense he doesn't have much breakdown ability himself, so he is usually forced to rely on screens to get into the paint. Problem with that is teams are just going to go under everything because of his lack of a jumper. He doesn't have NBA range and even his college 3 pointer was inconsistent (although he did start hitting towards the end of the year last year). If he isn't getting into the lane and probing the defense, he isn't able to find shooters or cutters.

Simply put, Marshall isn't NBA ready at this point and Telfair is a better option to backup Dragic. I'd expect his minutes to go up as the season goes and Phoenix falls further and further out of the playoff race, but he just isn't an NBA player at this point in his development.
