Amar'e would embrace bench role

Amar'e Stoudemire would accept a role as the New York Knicks' sixth man if asked, two sources with knowledge of Stoudemire's thinking told ESPNNewYork.com.

"All he cares about right now is helping the team and winning," said one source, who has been around Stoudemire regularly in recent weeks. "He'd be fine with coming off the bench if that's what they want."

Stoudemire hasn't spoken with reporters since suffering a left knee injury in the preseason. He's been rehabilitating his knee following arthroscopic surgery for the past four weeks and is expected to miss at least another two weeks.

Good news. Amar'e and J.R. off the bench would keep the offense rolling at a high tempo.

Eh. It's irrelevant IMO. It's all about where he ENDS the game. Last 5 minutes, tied game, is it a lineup that features Tyson, STAT, and Melo? Or is it a lineup that has Melo at the 4, and Amar'e on the bench?

What's more important is the rotations. It worked with, say, Harden in OKC because he gave the bench the ballhandler, playmaker and scorer they needed, which wasn't needed as much with the starting group.

Every minute in the NBA is really equal in importance, although everything is amplified in the final minutes because as defenses tighten up, different holes on your team can be exposed. If Amare doesn't fit with Tyson at C in the first few minutes, it will be the same effect in the last few minutes. The idea of bringing him off the bench should be to accomidate the fact that he is most effective having the big athletic advantage over the average C, much like how Melo has against the average PF.

You can say the same thing about our guards Felton Kidd JR Shumpert i think we just gotta play our best match ups and hottest players and be happy we have so much depth

All of this is true - the direction I'm coming from though, is Amar'e going to embrace a role where he most likely won't be on the court in the final few minutes in a playoff game? If he really can't work with Chandler and Melo offensively, he certainly isn't out there for his defense. So I'm just saying we'll see how he reacts when we are playing, let's say Miami, and in game 6 of the playoffs in a tied game with 2:30 to play he's riding the pine.
