Mets' Santana done for season, to have elbow scoped

NEW YORK -- Johan Santana needs surgery for bone chips in his left elbow and the star pitcher is out for the season, the latest blow to a New York Mets team battered by injuries.

The team said their 30-year-old ace is expected to be ready for spring training next year. The two-time Cy Young winner was examined Tuesday by Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek in New York.

at this point the mets should just bench all starters and give them extra rest for next year. i wouldn't be surprised if sananta would have played through this if the mets were in contention.

Lol...pretty much all of their starters are on the DL right now so they are getting plenty of rest.

With Santana I think he would have had no problem and probably did have no problem playing with this injury and getting the surgery done in the offseason. However, with the way things have been going, Minaya probably just told him to go home get the surgery done and just start getting ready for next year.
