Belfort vs. Silva at UFC 108?

Has Anderson Silva finally found a worthy challenger in the middleweight division? The UFC would like to think so now that Vitor Belfort has made his return to the Octagon, and the former light heavyweight champion will get a shot at Silva in his second fight back according to The Los Angeles Times.

The bout will likely occur at UFC 108 on January 2, 2010, as Silva needs time to recover from a fairly standard surgical procedure to remove bone spurs from his elbow.

Now there are two questions on every UFC fan’s mind. First of all, did Belfort really deserve the title shot despite just coming back to the UFC? Granted, he beat a good veteran fighter in Rich Franklin, but some feel he needed one more win before getting the shot.

He has a punchers chance but nothing more if you ask me. The type of fighter that has the best chance of defeating Silva is a fighter with great wrestling, top control, submission defense with powerful GNP and good BJJ as well. Anybody that is a striker first and foremost, who,s name isn't Lyoto Machida, has a punchers chance and nothing more.

Unless Belfort is able to catch Silva and unleash his crazy flurries on him, I don't see how he would pull out a victory as Silva is better is basically every single area of fighting.
