Griz sloppy in public scrimmage

The Grizzlies' open practice was well attended in the 2,000-seat Bill Battle Coliseum at Birmingham-Southern College.

Coach Lionel Hollins talked the crowd through drills before the team tipped off a 24-minute scrimmage.

Blue team: O.J. Mayo, Hasheem Thabeet, Hamed Haddadi, Allen Iverson, DeMarre Carroll, Trey Gilder, Marcus Williams and Leon Rodgers.

White team: Mike Conley, Rudy Gay, Marc Gasol, Sam Young, Zach Randolph, Mike Taylor, Thomas Gardner and Marcus Hunter.

Darrell Arthur sat out with pec injury and Iverson was limited early after suffering a left hamstring pull.

The Blue squad won 47-38 but the players were mostly out of control with guys trying too hard to impress the Birmingham crowd. Hollins plans to address that issue as well as defensive breakdowns and selfish play on offense in a lengthy film session tomorrow.

"We just need our veterans to try to play in the flow a little more," Hollins said. "...We have to step up when we start playing against other teams so we're all one."
