Analysis: Grizzlies a work in progress

When the Grizzlies' open practice began Sunday evening in the 2,000-seat Bill Battle Coliseum at Birmingham-Southern College, coach Lionel Hollins grabbed the microphone and talked the crowd through several drills.

He was sharp and informative a la former Griz coach Hubie Brown.

By many accounts, Hollins came off as entertaining and smooth before the team tipped off a 24-minute game.

While the scrimmage may have drawn plenty of cheers from the crowd, the Grizzlies' play left a different impression on Hollins and his coaching staff.

There still is a lot to smooth out.

The first six days of training camp produced 10 practices -- some good, some bad -- and at least 10 things learned about the Grizzlies. Some of their early traits generate great optimism while others make you cringe.

Work in progress?! There supposed to be perfect after 10 practices.
