Football Association chairman David Triesman said Wednesday that the bid to hold soccer’s signature tournament will learn from Chicago’s first-round exit in last week’s 2016 Olympic vote, when Obama failed to sway IOC members during a whirlwind trip to Copenhagen. “It may be wrong to rely on one stellar figure,” Triesman said. “You may have to do a great deal more than that to earn the right to stage the tournament.” Earlier Wednesday, FIFA vice president Jack Warner branded the England bid as “lightweight.” “I don’t think that is an accurate description,” Triesman said. “It was said to me that when South Africa bid there was Nelson Mandela around.
